Good morning, Kitchissippi.

My apologies for not having put out a newsletter in a bit. As many of you saw in social media, I tested positive for covid a week ago Saturday night and by that Sunday I was significantly knocked back on my butt by it. Things began to improve by Thursday and I'm happy to say that I feel pretty much completely recovered and symptom free as I write this today. I'm looking forward to getting back to work this week to catch up on a few things. I think as I noted a couple of weeks ago, I'll be out of the office enjoying some vacation from July 16-August 1 and largely unreachable.

Covid is absolutely ripping through the community right now as the wastewater tracking shows here. Even if you've stopped wearing masks in many settings, please consider resuming doing so if you're in close contact with others indoors or on transit.
Committee of Adjustment July 20
There are several applications for our ward on the agenda of the Committee of Adjustment Panel 1 meeting on July 20. Applications have been made for variances at 87 Melrose, 430 & 432 Avondale, 502 Melbourne and 457 Dawson. View the details of those here.

439 Churchill site plan application open house June 30
A site plan has been proposed for the three-storey, four-unit addition to the existing building at 439 Churchill Avenue North. Find the full details of that here. We've now posted the video of that open house here.

501 Cole heritage designation
I had a lengthy note about this designation in my last newsletter, but will just update that Council passed the recommendation to designate the property at our meeting last week. It is now up to the developer to determine whether to go down an appeal route, first to Council, and then to the Ontario Land Tribunal. Stay tuned.

Auditor General occupation consultation
As part of her work to investigate the City of Ottawa's response to this winter's occupation of the downtown, her office has opened both online submission and virtual public consultation opportunities to participate. Please see more details here.

Piccadilly re-build consultation
The City is preparing to re-build Piccadilly between Wellington and Basset Lane beginning late next spring if budget is approved. Find out more and participate in the online consultation here.

Granite Club development open house
I've gotten a few inquiries about the availability of the open house video from the Granite Club proposal. That open house, along with all our office's open houses, is posted to our YouTube channel here.

Westboro BIA kite nights
The Westboro Village BIA is hosting a series of kite nights with two down and four to go on July 8, 15, 22 and 29 from 6-10 pm. Shop in Westboro Village, bring a kite to Westwood Park and get a light kit for your kite and enjoy family-friendly activities and music. Get more information here.

Free yoga in Parkdale Park
There's free yoga in Parkdale Park every Saturday morning in July and August from 9:45-10:45 am, starting on July 2. Bring your own mat. Instruction is provided by Prana Shanti and the event is hosted by Friends of Parkdale Park.

At City Hall

Team Kitchissippi
Committee and Council meetings are largely over for the summer now at City Hall, and the next key committee meeting will be Planning on August 25, and Council will meet again on August 31.

Since we're in an election year, I wouldn't expect many high-profile issues in front of Council and Committee for the remainder of the term. It looks almost certain that we'll be in "lame duck" mode this fall wherein we know that at least 1/3 of the current Council won't be returning. That constrains us from making major spending and hiring/firing decisions.

Over the next few weeks, my staff and I will be taking summer vacations but will always have someone in the office to take your call or answer your email.

Congratulations to Will who was the first to cross the line in this weekend's Hintonburg Centennial 5k 1k race. You couldn't have asked for better weather for the event in which hundreds participated. I'd like to thank the Hintonburg Community Association for organizing this amazing community event, the sponsors, and especially the many volunteers needed to make it all happen.
