Volunteer Planting Opportunity
Tectaria incisa is an invasive fern (photo above).
It is prevalent in our own Broward County Park, Fern Forest. An effort to remove them was implemented this past April. To replace them, Fern Forest has invited the USDA, Master Gardener Volunteer’s and the Florida Native Plant Society to plant the native fern Tectaria heracleifolia (photo below).
This effort will be led by Emily Guinan from Fairchild Gardens, using Eileen Pokorny as the contact person. We will be meeting on Tuesday July 12th, at 9am in the parking lot, at the beginning of the boardwalk to the Nature Center. They are planning to complete this before 12 noon, however you may leave at any time if needed. Eileen can be contacted at eileen.pokorny@usda.gov. If interested, please email Eileen directly for more details and put you on the list of volunteers.
