Remembering Fr. Ed

The funeral for Fr. Ed will be on Wednesday, July 13, at the main chapel at Sacred Heart Monastery / Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology. Reception of the Body and the Wake will begin at 9:30 a.m.; the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Both will be livestreamed. 86 years of religious profession!
Just over a week ago Jonathan Nguyen-Vuong, Jacob Smith and Michael Wodarczyk were approved for First Professions; the ceremony will take place on August 15 at the main chapel at Sacred Heart Monastery / Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology. Invitations will go out soon.
Who is the Dehonian with the most years in vows? It is most likely Br. Michel Poirier, SCJ, who at 107, is the eldest SCJ in the world. He is a member of the Franco-European Province (EUF) and professed his first vows with the Priests of the Sacred Heart in 1936 –– 86 years ago!
Fr. Charles Aime Koudjou, SCJ, a member of the General Council, recently did a short interview with Br. Michel. When asked what he thought was the most important event in his life, he said without hesitation: “Religious profession.” Reflecting on his life as a Dehonian, he said that “the missions, the schools” are what have been most important to him.
When asked to give advice to the next generation of SCJs, such as those making their first profession this year, he said that what is important is “to remain faithful, to study well, to form oneself well, to prepare oneself well in all areas of education.” Br. Michel emphasized that education in religious life is important, but also in one’s profession, one’s ministry.

Please remember
+ Marjorie Moore, an honorary SCJ of the Canadian Region, died on Sunday June 26. She was 83. Marjorie worked with Fr. Bill More, SCJ, for many years in the Separated and Divorced Ministry in Ottawa.
+ Todd Edgar, an alumnus of Divine Heart Seminary, died on July 7 of cancer. He attended DHS in the mid-late 1970s.
+ Janie (de Jong) Nolten, the sister of Fr. Jan de Jong, SCJ, died in Holland. She had been in a nursing home for some time, suffering from dementia. Recently, she broke her hip in a fall, after which her health deteriorated more significantly. Her three daughters were at her side at the time of her death and Fr. Jan was able to pray with them via Zoom.
+ The brother of province attorney, Kathleen Dahlgren, died on July 8 of a heart attack. He was 55 and his name was John.
+The brother of Fr. Pat Lloyd, SCJ, died yesterday, July 10, in Hilton Head. His name was Will.

Officially installed
Although he has been serving in the role for some time, Fr. Rafael Querobin, SCJ, was officially installed yesterday morning as the pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Houston. Fr. Albert Zanata led the Rite of Installation and represented Cardinal Daniel Dinardo in the ceremony at the 10:30 Mass.
“I was presented to the priests, pastoral council, finance council, parish staff, and all the parishioners as the new pastor,” said Fr. Rafael. “The ritual was simple, but full of joy and blessings. My commitment as pastor is to embrace all the ministries present at Our Lady of Guadalupe, walking together with Christ. I also want to build a pastoral team with the parochial vicars.”

On June 29, parishioners at St. Martin of Tours in Franklin, WI, held a farewell gathering for Fr. Terry Langley, SCJ, who was leaving the parish after many years as its pastor.
