Homelessness is a clearly visible issue on Britain’s streets in recent years and it is a perilous place to be. That is true whether the weather is hot or cold but extreme weather can make life on the streets even more dangerous. Often it is during heatwaves or during the festive season when temperatures drop when you can make the most difference to people’s lives. Official figures showed 2,440 people were estimated to be sleeping rough in England on a single night in autumn 2021.
StreetLink exists to help end rough sleeping by enabling members of the public to connect people sleeping rough with the local services that can support them. StreetLink is a website, mobile app and phone service for England and Wales, which enables people to send an alert when they see someone sleeping rough to connect that person to local support services that can help to end their homelessness.
