Welcome to the Some Things newsletter curated by designer & artist Ngaio Parr

Lots of looks, not so much reading this week.

READ

Are the movies liberal?

The ladies of Selling Sunset traffic in aspiration, but even they can barely maintain the constant self-optimization it takes to keep the fantasy alive. Also.

A good beach read: For Her Consideration is LA-centric celebrity romance (pre-order)!

LOOK & LISTEN

A mixtape for love songs and a disco vibe.

This week in Elvis content: HBO's documentary The Searcher is a good watch.

Neo Andean Architecture > Other Architecture

Going to live my best Leonard Cohen life in Hydra in a few weeks, so rewatched the lovely Marianne & Leonard.

Rock stars and their parents in the 70's!

Yes, I would like to live here — thank you.

A playlist of clapping songs because why not?

Women Who Rock looks incredible.

A reminder that this song exists.

DO & BUY

I scoffed when a newsletter I read recommended "putting stuff in your water" but I cyclically forget/remember how much better one little wedge of lemon in your water makes your day. Upgrade to jam, super upgrade to jam cocktail.

Go to a fancy dinner with your friend at 5pm, drink three great cocktails, eat all appetizers and desserts and leave so happy you don't even care you got a parking ticket.

Some things I have purchased: these fancy sandals (animal print is the only true neutral), yet another Jungmaven Lorel tee ($20 off with the link), and my first ever belt.

Some things I wish I could purchase: this fringed rainbow bag, and this particular brand of cowboy boots. Also dreaming someone will set me up with some Paul & Joes clothes —sherbet suit, check suit, paisley suit?! And I've not even entered Golden Age Workwear (got Austin Butler in here again somehow) yet and I know I want to buy it all as I'm currently entering my triple denim era and proud of it.

Thanks for reading! This newsletter is free, but if you’re feeling generous you can support my work by forwarding it to a friend, ordering The Grief Companionbuying me a coffee, or referring me for a project. I'm taking on new clients and collaborating with studios and brands near and far — maybe that could be you?
