What to Do When You Think Your Spouse Is Hiding Money

In many marriages, one spouse typically handles the money and the other is — voluntarily or not — usually unaware of exactly how much money is going into and out of the couple’s bank accounts.

Ideally, both spouses would have a solid handle on their finances, if only because the death or disability of the money-handling spouse can leave the non-money-handling spouse in a bind when it comes time to pay the electric bill. But in the real world, most couples divvy up duties, and when the marriage is happy and healthy, it’s usually not a major problem.

When the relationship isn’t solid, however, not knowing the nuts and bolts of your and your spouse’s economic situation can be devastating to the spouse who has been left in the dark. Legally, married couples have a fiduciary duty to one another (at least until they hire a divorce lawyer), meaning that each spouse has a duty of honesty and fair dealing to their spouse.

Nexus Recovery Center Named ASC 2023 Beneficiary

Congratulations to Nexus Recovery Center on being named the 2023 beneficiary of Attorneys Serving the Community, a group of Dallas legal professionals who volunteer for and raise funds for Dallas-area charities that benefit women and children.
Nexus is one of only three women-only drug and alcohol treatment centers in Texas and the only one that allows a mother to bring up to three children with her into the program, allows pregnant women to participate in the program, and has onsite child care, thereby benefiting the whole family during the mother’s recovery.

I was honored to serve as a member of the Charity Selection Committee, which oversaw the rigorous nominations and selection process and narrowed the field of charities down to three finalists. The final selection was determined by a vote of ASC membership.
