Tears and smiles
For the second time in 2 1/2 years, Arkansas said goodbye to a diocesan priest who was raised to the order of bishop. Bishop Erik Pohlmeier was beaming as he was ordained the 11th bishop of St. Augustine, Fla., July 22 with more than 40 family members in attendance.
We are sure everyone has been practicing how to correctly say the diocese's name. The city and diocese are called St. AW-gus-teen, but the saint who the town is named after is St. Aw-GUS-tin.

JUST ONE MINUTE
“Beloved, we love God because he first loved us. If anyone says, ‘I love God,’ but hates his brother, he is a liar; for whoever does not love a brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. This is the commandment we have from him: Whoever loves God must also love his brother” (1 John 4:19-21). The letters of John are short but powerful. The message cuts right to the heart of the matter: to be Christian is to love as God has loved me personally.
Reflection: It is important to take time to ponder and notice how I have been loved and am being loved by God, thus being empowered to love. Today, with Jesus, reflect on how you have experienced his personal love for you. Notice how he is empowering you to love.
— Deacon Danny Hartnedy

St. Ignatius of Loyola
July 31
Inigo Lopez de Loyola was a soldier wounded in battle before he experienced a personal conversion. While convalescing, he read about Christ and the saints, made a long retreat at Manresa and journeyed to Jerusalem. In Paris, he became the center of a group of like-minded men who founded the Society of Jesus, or Jesuits, to be active missionaries and meet the challenges of the Reformation. St. Ignatius wrote “Spiritual Exercises,” which is still a popular formation guide. He is the patron saint of retreats and soldiers.

DAVE SAYS
Help your parents get help
I have a good job making $65,000 a year. The only debt I have is about $5,000 remaining on a car loan, and I am paying that off as quickly as possible. My mom and dad need repairs on their small house, and I am not sure they can afford to fix things. What do you think about the idea of pausing paying off my car to help them?

QUOTE UNQUOTE
"To be a bishop, one must have the ability to listen, both to those who have the same ideas and to those who protest. Is not easy. Just think of the issue of abuse, which has marked the life of the Church in various parts of the world in recent years,"
- French Salesian Sister Yvonne Reungoat, a new member of the Dicastery for Bishops.
