Beating the Odds
Romans 7:14-25
I’m not a gambler, but I have gambled in my past. When my best friend got married in Bullhead City, AZ, we decided to go across the Colorado River into Laughlin, NV for a little fun. We “invested” some nickels in the slot machines and were each rewarded with a handsome profit (about $2.50, I believe). We got back to the church in time for the rehearsal, and all the while we’re both thinking, “We have to go back and get some more!” So, against the stern warnings of his almost wife, who grew up next to a gambling town, we returned and escalated to “quarter slots.” We were then rewarded with a life lesson when we lost not only our earlier winnings, but also about $5 each to boot!
Since then, I have never tried to beat the odds in that way. Yet as Christians, we beat the odds everyday in the spiritual war in which we find ourselves! Join us this Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and find out why and how!

A NOTE FROM PASTOR JERRY
To all who read this bulletin and this column, we have an announcement to make: In two weeks (from this Sunday), a candidate for the Worship Director position will be leading us in worship, along with our praise team! His name is Shaun Easton (you can find him on YouTube) and he is from Geneseo. He and I have been meeting about once per week for the past month, and we are both excited that he will be here. They have already come and visited Bethany and enjoyed the service very much!
Please be in prayer that God will make His will clear to us and to Shaun when he comes on July 31st!
