Hurricane Preparation

KEY TAKEAWAY
Hurricane season is from June 1st to November 30th. Make a plan, build a kit, and be informed.

It's hurricane season. The best way to be prepared is to have a plan.
Start with these three steps:

1. Make a Plan: Create a paper copy of the contact information for your family that includes doctors, and service providers. Establish emergency meeting places for your family in your home, as well as in and outside your neighborhood.

2. Build a Kit: Being prepared means having food, water, cash, and other supplies to last for at least 3 days (possibly longer if you are in a remote or hard-to-reach area). Contents of your kit depend on your needs, but consider:
  • Water (1 gallon per person at minimum)
  • Cash
  • Non-perishable food, can opener
  • First aid supplies, Medications
  • Flashlights, Batteries, Sleeping Bags
  • Matches (in a waterproof container)
  • Toiletries, Clothes, Blankets,
  • Baby and/or pet supplies
  • Fire extinguisher
  • NOAA radio and cell phones
3. Be Informed: Download the FEMA App for real-time alerts.  Keep your cell phone charged and have backup charging devices.
