CIHR:  Expanded Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Self-Identification Questionnaire for Applicants
The collection of self-identification data is a vital piece of the federal funding agencies’ commitment to improving equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in Canada’s research funding system.  The first version of the federal funding agencies’ Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Self-Identification Questionnaire for applicants was introduced in 2018. In alignment with the other federal granting agencies, CIHR has now implemented an expanded version of the self-identification questionnaire that includes questions about sexual orientation and population group as well as more detailed questions about Indigenous identity and disability status. CIHR's expanded questionnaire will provide the agency with more complete self-identification data and enhance their ability to identify barriers to participation through an intersectional lens. As a result, applicants to CIHR will be asked to complete the expanded questionnaire on Research Net before submitting their next applications to funding opportunities launched after June 29, 2022. Applicants have the option to select “I prefer not to answer” for any of the questions. For more information about the expanded self-identification questionnaire, please visit the Frequently Asked Questions and the How-To Instructions available on the CIHR website. If you have any questions or require technical support to access the questionnaire, contact CIHR's Contact Centre at support-soutien@cihr-irsc.gc.ca.

SSHRC: Launch of new KSG: Gender-Based Violence

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) and Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE) are launching a Knowledge Synthesis Grants (KSG) funding opportunity to assess the state of research knowledge on the topic of gender-based violence under SSHRC’s Imagining Canada’s Future initiative. This call for proposals focuses on the state of knowledge on gender-based violence (GBV) in Canada such as the impact of GBV on different populations, the efficacy of services addressing and preventing GBV, or the needs of victims and survivors of GBV.  The KSGs on gender-based violence will support synthesizing existing knowledge and identifying knowledge gaps on this topic and stimulate knowledge mobilization. By reaching a variety of audiences, including decision-makers, this knowledge can, ultimately, contribute towards a Canada free of gender-based violence. The deadline for applications is September 1, 2022.

Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy – Update

In March 2021, CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC launched the Tri-Agency Research Data Management (RDM) Policy. The agencies are pleased to announce the initial funding opportunities that will require applicants to submit DMPs. Learn more.

NSERC: New Guide for EDI Considerations in Research

A new guide is meant to help the natural sciences and engineering research communities integrate Equity, Diversity and Inclusion considerations in research.  NSERC is taking action to assist the natural sciences and engineering (NSE) research communities in contributing to a more equitable, diverse and inclusive research enterprise, with the launch of the NSERC guide on integrating equity, diversity and inclusion considerations in research.  The new guide is designed to help NSE researchers apply a critical equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) lens in their work by providing guiding questions and examples relevant to their field of research.
