A Trail Reborn:  Hatchery Creek Phase 3
Help Suport Phase 3 of Hatchery Creek
A trail reborn! The Hatchery Creek Trail is one of the oldest trails in the CAMBA network and was previously all hand built, as many trails were in its time. As the trail enters its 2nd decade of life, the bumps became bumpier and the rocks rockier.

Where is the flow you say?

As the sport of mountain biking has grown and trail building has evolved, there has been a shift to build trails that are more inclusive for all ages and levels that like to get their smiles on two wheels. Hatchery Creek is part of this evolution in mountain biking and is currently experiencing a rebirth that will provide an improved riding experience for all ages. During 2020 and 2021, two phases were completed and improved over 4 miles of trail to bring back the flow.  In 2022, Phase 3 will rebuild two more miles of trail to add on to a stacked loop system, which will add a progression of difficulty from two separate trailheads, Hatchery Creek and Mosquito Brook.

Families will be able to ride from the trailhead together and as the trail progresses, so will the difficulty. Yes, the trail provides a loop system back to the main trailheads. Some of the original “old school” feel of the trail will be preserved in the middle of the system, which will provide that extra challenge for those riders seeking it.

The final portion of this project, Phase 3, has begun and completes a major milestone – nine miles total, comprised of several stacked loops, with increasing progression. Phase 3 is estimated to cost approximately $15,000.

Your contribution will help this trail be reborn!

Wisconsin Conservation Corps Crew Update

Ten members of the Wisconsin Conservation Corps landed in CAMBA country this summer to work on the CAMBA trails! Young adults from around the state, region and country comprise the WCC crew, which is affiliated with Americorps. The WCC crew will supplement CAMBA's seasonal trail crew with specific tasks of improving and restoring drainage and rehabbing the trail tread on parts of Seeley Pass, Hatchery Creek, and Makwa.

This weekend we bid adieu to one of the WCC crews that has been working with us for the past couple of weeks. We're very grateful for the hard work they've put in to help restore a half mile segment of Seeley Pass and about a mile of Hatchery Creek. Another crew will be with us for two more weeks with more great rehab work to come.

This initiative is all part of CAMBA's efforts to restore our older trails to their original condition and ensure their sustainability.

Stay tuned for more from the trails as the season continues.

Men’s Weekend MTB Clinic
Presented by
Friday, July 15 – Sunday, July 17, 2022

This weekend, a great group of guys will be participating in the Men's Weekend Mountain Bike Clinic! Thank you to our presenting sponsor, Washburn Iron Works!

Washburn Iron Works Inc. was established in 1976 by Otto Rusch. Currently on their 3rd generation ownership/management, brothers Cole and Taylor Pearson have led the company for the past 12 years. They are proud that business has been good and they are a growing company.

Many people drive by the face of the company on Bayfield Street in Washburn WI and have no idea what is happening inside or don’t realize how big a company they are in a small town. Expanding this summer to around 71,000 square feet, Washburn Iron Works employs around 50 employees. They cast grey and ductile iron parts for a wide range of industries like Compressor / Heavy truck / Defense / Agriculture equipment / Elevator components / Fire truck parts, and the list goes on and on. They pour between 33,000-39,000 lbs of iron each day on their single shift which results in around 24,900 lbs of parts each day.

Cole Pearson and Kurt Lindstrom from Washburn Iron Works will also be attending the clinic. CAMBA thanks Washburn Iron Works!

Big thank you to everyone who participated in the Chequamegon 100, 65 or 30!  We are so thankful for the volunteers and sponsors who helped make this great event possible!  Be sure to check out the RESULTS AND PHOTOS!

August 27th - Community Picnic – Music, Food & Fun

The biggest event of the year for Hayward Area Memorial Hospital & Water’s Edge is the COMMUNITY PICNIC! The Community Trail Blazers are excited to announce the event’s return after a two-year hiatus.
This year’s event will be held on Saturday, August 27th from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM in the Heritage Building Parking Lot and surrounding area.  We are anticipating over 500 guests to our campus, participation from Water's Edge tenants, residents and families and great representation from our staff and their families. A variety of departments will showcase their services with informational booths.

This year's event promises to be bigger and better than ever. We are working with local emergency services to have fire trucks, an ambulance and police cars at the event. LifeLink III is planning to have a helicopter on-site that day. The Birkie's Dive for the Dirt obstacle course will be set-up, along with yard games from the Wellness Team. Northwest Connection Family Resource Center will provide games for the youngest attendees, CAMBA is setting up bike tours and DJ Dalton will add to the festivities. We are working with the Hayward Lions Club to prepare our picnic feast, Backroads Coffee is making sure we are caffeinated and providing dessert.

We hope you can join us!
