Introducing our new Volunteer & Resource Coordinator Laura Casas
Laura has had a 17 year career as a manager with FEMA, NIH, Peace Corps, an international brokerage, and recently as a consultant for Wildfire and Covid response. She has a BS in International Business and is almost done with an MS in Emergency & Disaster Management at Georgetown University. Laura was hired with the support of two grants that we had received from the Tsuha Foundation and the Westminster Manor. Please help us welcome Laura!
2022 Point In Time Count
On June 9, 2022, Kat Durant, Chief Program Officer for the San Diego Regional Task Force on Homelessness, reported the results of the 2022 Point in Time Count. This year the count was delayed for a month to February 24 due to Covid concerns. Kat reported that the number of homeless counted was up by approximately 10% from the previous count in 2020. There was no count in 2021 due to Covid. The full "We All Count (PIT)" report can be seen here. Kat Durant's full recorded presentation can be viewed by clicking on her picture below:
June 11 Clean-up and Outreach Event
On June 11, the Downtown Fellowship partnered with the San Diego Rescue Mission and Downtown Partnership Clean & Safe to host a Clean-up and Outreach to those on the street. Volunteers attended from Luminous City Church and First Presbyterian Church of San Diego. Volunteers cleaned up a 16 block area in the southwest corner of downtown. Volunteers also provided hygiene kits and interacted with the homeless they encountered on the streets. We intend to host more of these events in the future.
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Heb 10:24-25
