Community Association News

What is the Community Association (TESCA)?
TESCA is an organization dedicated to supporting The Expedition School (TES) and its families.  Our organization is based on the premise that TES families’ time, talents, and energy are indispensable ingredients in fostering and maintaining the school’s culture and sense of community.  TESCA’s mission is to act as an organization through which families, teachers, staff, and the larger community can work cooperatively to support and enhance the educational and social experiences of the children and families at The Expedition School.

Community Mixer!

You are invited to a Community Mixer at The TES Playground during Meet the Teacher Night on July 28th. The goal is to provide an opportunity for families to connect while they are at school for Meet the Teacher Night. The mixer will be a drop in event during Meet Teacher to allow both lower and middle school families to attend. The mixer will include popsicles, drinks, and community-building activities for kids. Attendees will be asked to wear name tags. More details to come.

Call for Volunteers!

It is the middle of the July but the return to school is just around the corner. TESCA will be communicating several volunteer needs as the new year kicks off. Please take a look and consider volunteering for one of these fun activities.

Family-to-Family Connections Project:

This activity focuses on matching up veteran TES families with families new to TES. Veteran families are provided information to share with new families and are also asked to be a general resource to help support new families in our community. The time frame for outreach to new families is during the first two-three weeks of school. Each family will be provided with resources to provide to the new family to help address questions. A total of 17 families are needed for this activity. The breakdown for incoming families is: 8th grade (1 family), 6th grade (3 families), 5th grade (4 families), 3rd grade (1 family), and Kindergarten (8 families).

Family-to-Family Connections Project: Contact tescaadmin@tes-ca.com  to volunteer
Room Parents:

A Room Parent is a volunteer who helps a teacher by serving as the liaison between the teacher and other classroom families. Additionally, the Room Parent relays information about classroom supply needs or asks for volunteers for various events. This is a great way to be involved with your child’s class and to help foster family involvement! If you are interested in being a room parent, please contact your teacher and let either Scott k-4roomparent@tes-ca.com or Jennifer 5-8roomparent@tes-ca.com know. You can read the TESCA Room Parent Handbook here for Teachers and Room Parents. It's full of useful information, form letters, ideas, and more.
Welcome Back Mixer:

The Welcome Back Mixer will be held at TES Playground on the same night (July 28) that in-person Meet the Teacher activities occur. It will run from ~5:15-7:30pm, including meeting before the event to set up, as well as a half hour after the event for clean up. Each shift is half hour long and duties include setting up the event, managing the food/drinks table, breaking down the event. We also need coolers to use during the event.

Welcome Back Mixer: Contact Scott k-4roomparent@tes-ca.com to volunteer or for more information.

Read-A-Thon:
Please consider joining a team to plan and support the 2022-23 Read-A-Thon!

Want to help plan and support the annual Read-A-Thon event? TES-CA works with TES to build a program that encourages students to read while helping to raise money that supports our school community. We are seeking at least 5 volunteers to join a team to help decide this year's theme, kick off activities, prizes, and to help organize the fundraiser and coordinate additional volunteers.

This team would start planning in early August, so a fun and successful event can be held after Fall Break. Responsibilities could include:

  • Determine rules and prize structure
  • Design and distribute informational materials
  • Plan kick-off activities, such as a poster contest, picnic, and advertising
  • Design and distribute materials and tools to track reading minutes, money raised, and prizes
  • Select, order, and distribute prizes
  • Plan Spirit Week and help notify students and families
  • Coordinate with school administration and teachers on select activities
  • Work with a TES-CA Steering Committee anchor on execution and volunteer coordination
  • New ideas for community engagement!

These events are so important for building community spirit and creating experiences that students will remember for years afterward!

For more information or to volunteer, contact Ashley Trahan by July 30th at Fundrasising@tes-ca.com

Welcome Back Breakfast:

Each year, we hold a welcome back breakfast for TES teachers/staff.  Volunteers are needed: one for setting up the event at 7:15 AM and another for breaking down the event at 1:15 PM. Contact the TESCA lead for this event, Sophia Pelton, at sophiaann1718@gmail.com to volunteer.
