Hi <<First Name>>, |
Nature News: Amazon Calling. And not the Amazon that probably first jumped to mind...
The Amazon Rainforest is resilient: the largest rainforest on the planet has been around for at least 55 million years, surviving repeated ice ages and warming. But human impacts, combined with climate change, are decreasing that resiliency, causing the forest to lose its ability to bounce back from repeated disturbances. A recent study indicates that more than three-quarters of the Amazon rainforest is losing its ability to rebound from fire, deforestation, and drought.
The weakening could push the world’s largest rainforest towards a tipping point, after which much of the forest will become grassland, with horrific consequences for biodiversity and the global climate. Not only could loss of the rainforest be catastrophic for the 10 percent of known species that make their homes in the Amazon and imperil millions of people who rely on the ecosystem for food, exceeding the Amazon’s tipping point would also unleash several years' worth of global greenhouse gas pollution into the atmosphere, with warming consequences that would be felt thousands of miles away and for centuries into the future.

Activists fighting to protect the Amazon from deforestation face violent opposition and sometimes death, with the recent horrific shooting of British journalist Dom Phillips and indigenous expert Bruno Pereira in Brazil the latest high profile tragedy to occur. While recent developments in Colombia, with the election of Gustavo Petro – Colombia's first progressive president pledging to keep fossil fuels in the ground and to protect the Amazon rainforest, provide a small glimmer of hope, there is much to be done to ensure the survival of the Amazon rainforest, and it is in the best interests of all of us to ensure that this happens.

Getting our wag on for Dogust
Our dogs shower us with unconditional love, affection, and loyalty, so it’s no wonder that many of us often go out of our way to celebrate our fur babies and their milestones, especially when it comes to birthdays.
But what if you don't know what day your dog was born? That's where Dogust comes in!
'Dogust' takes place Aug. 1 each year and is a nationwide celebration for dogs whose birthdays are unknown. It's the official birthday for all rescued puppies and dogs and a day to celebrate their importance in our lives.
To help you count down to Dogust and a day to celebrate all things canine, we’ve rounded up a few of the most popular articles in the HomeoPet Natural Pet Care Center on natural dog health and dog care. Feel free to share any of these with the rest of your team and your customers, so we can all help dogs to live happier, healthier lives, naturally.

Noise Phobia in Dogs
Noise phobia in dogs is relatively common and can be a source of great distress. In a recent study of 13,715 pet dogs from Finland, belonging to 264 different breeds, more than 70% of dogs displayed anxiety. Of this total number, 32% had noise sensitivity, meaning that they were frightened of at least one noise. Among noise-sensitive dogs, the most common fear was that of sounds associated with fireworks, which had a prevalence of 26%. In a separate study presented at an AVMA conference in Texas on noise phobia in the canine, 50% of owners reported that thunderstorms and fireworks caused a change in behavior.
Sensitivity to noise is a major welfare concern and although it is one of the most common behavior concerns of owners, it is frequently inadequately or ineffectively treated. However, there are many things we can do to help to manage and reduce noise phobia in our pets. One great option to have on hand during storm season is Storm Stress, which is formulated to promote calm in pets exhibiting fear from thunderstorms, wind, hurricanes and tornadoes.

Treating wounds
Many dogs live very active lives and what dog-mom or pop doesn’t love to see their pup romping around in the great outdoors, living life to the max?! But our precious pooches can all too easily suffer from cuts and scrapes and it’s important for every pet parent to know how to clean and treat minor scrapes or cuts at home, and also to know when they should consult a veterinarian.
Having some basic first aid knowledge will not only allow you to help your own pets should they sustain a wound, but such knowledge may also give you the ability to assist your customers should they have any first aid questions about their animals. To kick start your first aid journey, you can learn more about how to treat wounds in pets in the Natural Pet Care Center, or grab your free digital copy of handy booklet on caring for wounds in pets - available as an online brochure or a downloadable PDF.

HomeoPet – Natural Pet Care For 27 Years
Tom Farrington MRCVS., MVB., VetMFHom - recognized many years ago the increasing demand for alternative natural treatments for common conditions that, while not life-threatening, cause suffering in animals. Previous ways of treating such conditions were with expensive and often harmful drugs that had significant unwanted side effects. In 1990 Tom enrolled his brother Daniel to see if there might be a market for a safe, naturally based therapy for animals. After several years of research, in 1994 Tom's vast knowledge of animal health, veterinary medicine, homeopathy and natural pet care became available outside his clinic, when his brother Daniel founded HomeoPet and launched a range of natural medicines for animals. We have been helping pet owners and animal lovers around the world find a more natural route to pet health ever since.
