HANOVER TROLLEY TRAIL NEWS
New trail section opens in Spring Grove.
The very first section of new trail to be built along the recently purchased Genesee & Wyoming rail line was officially opened to the public on June 2, 2022. The new trail section (on the left) is approximately 0.3 miles long with a macadam surface that connects the Borough’s Main Street and Borough Park to the existing section of the Hanover Trolley Trail (on the right). Gates, fencing, and signs will be installed in the near future to complete the project.
Oil Creek Restoration efforts move forward.
Many thanks to landowners along Oil Creek in Heidelberg Township who have welcomed consultants from LandStudies of Lititz, PA, and representatives of the York County Rail Trail Authority into their homes to review plans to restore Oil Creek. Long impacted by various human uses, the creek has undermined the nearby rail line in several locations, and its restoration is a first step to converting the rail corridor to a trail. As stream restoration design and permitting continues, grants are being submitted for future construction.

HERITAGE RAIL TRAIL NEWS
2022 Heritage Rail Trail Survey seeks visitor input.
As parking lots all along the Heritage Rail Trail continue to be very busy during the summer season, York County Department of Parks and Recreation is requesting visitor assistance in collecting much-needed data on the use of the rail trail. Survey forms and survey boxes are located at the parking lots. No time to complete the survey? Look for the QR code posted on the information board for you to submit online. Your responses assist in the planning of future maintenance and improvements. Thank you!
Contractor is selected for construction of an overhead canopy.
Through a public bidding process, York County Rail Trail Authority has selected WSL, Inc. of New Bloomfield, PA, to construct an overhead canopy at this location. As required by Norfolk Southern Railway, the canopy will protect trail visitors as they pass under this railroad bridge. Many thanks to PA Department of Transportation for providing the funding for this project and to the many trail visitors who have patiently waited for the Heritage Rail Trail to reopen at this location.  Look for the project to begin later this summer and continue through the fall.
