CEC GFO-21-901: Cost Share for Federal Clean Energy Funding Opportunities

The purpose of this California Energy Commission (CEC) solicitation is to provide cost share funding to applicants that apply for and receive one of the following: 

  1. An award under an eligible federal Funding Opportunity Announcement and meet the requirements of this solicitation, or  
  1. Follow-on funding from the U.S. Department of Energy to continue research from a previously awarded federal grant that also received CEC federal cost share funding under PON-14-308, GFO-18-902, or this GFO and the proposed project meets the requirements of this solicitation.

CEC RAMP: Realizing Accelerated Manufacturing and Production for Clean Energy Technologies

The purpose of this California Energy Commission funding opportunity is to provide financial assistance to help clean energy entrepreneurs that have achieved an established full-scale prototype and are seeking to move from one-off production to a pilot production line, also known as the Low-Rate Initial Production (LRIP) stage. LRIP is the first step in making the transition from highly customized hand-built prototypes, which are used for performance testing and vetting the production process, to the final mass-produced end product produced in the Full-Rate Production phase. 

Eligible technology categories include:

  • Energy Efficiency
  • End-use Electrification
  • Energy Storage
  • Zero- and Negative-Carbon Emissions Electric Generation (Renewable Generation)

Department of Energy SBIR/STTR Phase I

Topics for the Department of Energy's FY23 SBIR/STTR Phase I Release 1 funding were released this week. The Offices of Advanced Scientific Computing Research, Basic Energy Sciences, Biological and Environmental Research, and Nuclear Physics are participating in this solicitation. The full Funding Opportunity Announcement will be released on August 8.

American-Made Challenges: Solar Prize Round 6

Round 6 of the American-Made Solar Prize offers a total of $4.1 million in cash, vouchers, and other prizes for those with bold ideas to revolutionize the solar industry as we know it. The launch of Round 6 begins with the Ready! Contest, in which teams have until October 6 to prepare submissions outlining their solar innovation. Competitors will continue refining their concepts throughout the contests, with the final winners being chosen after the Go! Contest in September 2023.

Competing teams can also participate in the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Contest—which focuses on advancing solar in underserved communities—for additional cash prizes throughout the competition. 

If you have a solar invention or idea that you want to elevate to the next level, you are invited to compete in the Solar Prize Round 6.

Impact Ventures: Inclusive Innovation Accelerator

The Impact Venture’s Inclusive Innovation Accelerator Program is a 12-week virtual program designed for Pre-Seed and Seed stage tech/tech-enabled startups led by women and BIPOC founders.

This program focuses on improving driving industry innovation and creative solutions to complex business and social challenges. The program is structured to fit full-time/part-time founders while offering a flexible virtual class structure, and maintaining quality education, community building, access to high-level mentorship and professional networks, and access to capital.

Greentown Labs Go Make 2022

Go Make 2022 strives to decarbonize entire supply chains—from production through packaging and distribution. It is the inaugural program in the Go Make track of Greentown Go, Greentown’s recently announced climatetech partnerships accelerator that injects momentum and traction into startup-corporate collaborations to decarbonize the global economy, unlocking the power of climate solutions at scale.

Innovative startups at TRL 3 and above in the following technology areas can apply:

  • Supply chain management 
  • Packaging products and materials 
  • Alternative foods and ingredients
