Hi everyone,

My first interstate trip as Australian Children’s Laureate was this month to South Australia. Regional areas in Australia are important to me because children there often don’t have the same opportunity to hear a visiting children’s author or illustrator as do students in the major cities. I had great fun book talking, reading, and drawing dragons with students at Stirling Library in the Adelaide Hills and at Kingscote, Parndana and Penneshaw campuses on Kangaroo Island. I also presented to a group of adults at the Hahndorf Academy.

My next trip will be to the Museum of Art and Culture at Lake Macquarie in NSW during Book Week, where I’ll be talking about the importance of imagination to even more children.

I hope you enjoy this month’s new imagination activity, and don’t forget to take a look at our new Auslan resources. You can find more information later in the newsletter.

Imagine in July

Every month, Gabi is sharing an exciting activity to encourage everyone to exercise their imagination.

This July, it's time to IMAGINE A PUPPY. Do you have a puppy? Would you like a pet? Gabi shows you how to draw a special canine companion. You can even give them their very own coat!
