Hello, Hazelwood Friends!

Beginning July 30, we’re going to delve into a 5-week sermon series on The Lord’s Prayer. Thinking about prayer reminded me of a 4-week study I created for one of my seminary classes that I have not had a chance to share yet with a congregation; I thought it might be fun to do it with some of you! We will meet in the church fellowship hall on Sundays, beginning about 15 minutes after worship ends. Here’s the description:

Praying with Mystics
Come and learn about some of our 20th century faith ancestors! Each week, we will focus on one person who had a personal “mystical experience” of the presence of Christ in a unique way and how that affected their lives. We will also explore the prayer rituals and suggestions of each person. Each meeting is expected to be no longer than 60 minutes, so you’ll still make it out to lunch (or we could order lunch to be delivered if there is interest to do so among those attending).
  • Week 1, Aug. 7: Douglas Steere, 1901-1996
  • Week 2, Aug. 14: Simone Weil, 1909-1943
  • Week 3, Aug. 21: Dorothy Day, 1897-1980
  • Week 4, Aug. 28: Howard Thurman, 1899-1981
I hope you’ll consider joining me for one or more weeks. Each session stands on its own, so feel free to attend when you are able to do so, even if you cannot commit to all 4 weeks.

Shalom, Rev. Pamela

Our sympathy goes out to Donna Dye and her family on the passing of her niece, Maria, in Wyoming.

We express our sympathy to Rev. Sara Nave Fisher and her family, upon the death of her mother, Cheryl Nave. Memorial services will be held July 23 in Cosby, TN, and on August 6 in South Bend, IN.

Garden Update

Donna Dye has graciously donated her hedge clipper to the Garden Team. We'll get it sharpened up and ready to tackle the sidewalk boxwoods soon. Thank you!

Our search continues for a long-handled limb cutter to dispatch with some woody weeds and other uninvited foliage. If you would like to donate a long-handled limb cutter, please click HERE to let us know.

Thank you!

The heavy rains on on Sunday, July 17, brought some light flooding to the south wing of the basement. Thank you to Jeff, Kathy, & Josh Clary, Tony & Marianna Gill, Angie Lopez, Jay Matchett, and Bill Ritchie for coming by on Sunday evening to help! The cleanup continues this week, and we hope to have everything back in working order soon.
