Tom Damsell: Winner of the Abstract City Photography Competition

In our last e-newsletter we announced a public vote to choose the winner for the Abstract City photography competition.

We received 2,277 votes over just one week with photographer Tom Damsell receiving the most votes overall for abstract image of Castle Street.

As part of the competition prize, we offered Tom a commission to capture images to promote Cardiff for the City of Arcades brand and we have already started sharing his images on our social media channels!

The Cardiff Wine Passport Goes on Sale

Cardiff Wine Passport is a novel new way to support local business and explore some of Cardiff’s best-loved independent bars & restaurants.

From 7th August to 15th September, passport holders can swap passport stamps for ‘wine flights’ at six city-centre venues of their choice. Choose from venues like:

Kindle - Cardiff
 Bar 44
 Asador 44
 Vermut
Curado Bar
Scaredy Cats Cafe Bar
Rum & Fizz
Gin & Juice Cardiff
The Little Man Coffee Co
Daffodil

Each passport costs just £25 and entitles you to six 175ml glasses of delicious wine. Visit their website to get your hands on one. There are only 1500 available so you've got be quick to avoid missing out!

Yellow The Social Enterprise

In June, we welcomed Yellow: The Social Enterprise to Cardiff's Morgan Arcade. Yellow TSE is a zero-waste, plastic free department store that uses QR technology to create a paperless shopping experience.

When you visit you’ll find refillable stations with spices, dried foods and cleaning products. They also stock gifts by small business owners from jewellery to candles, T-shirts and prints. While shopping you can also grab a tea or coffee and relax in their cosy cafe.

Koi No Yokan Opens in Buffalo

The ground floor of the iconic Buffalo bar has reopened as a Japanese bar and restaurant serving cocktails, Japanese whisky and modern fusion small plates.

Owner Alexander Taylor also has plans to open the first floor as a music venue in September so stay tuned!

Friends in Knead Merges with Pettigrew Bakeries

One of the city's best loved craft bakeries, Pettigrew Bakeries have announced that they are merging with Friends in Knead.

Staff from both businesses will continue under the Pettigrew Bakeries brand and the current Friends in Knead store in Castle Arcade will become a stand-alone showcase for Pettigrew’s growing range of patisserie.

Corner Coffee Opens A Takeaway on Quay Street

Popular Cardiff coffee shop Corner Coffee has expanded, opening a takeaway on Quay Street, a stones throw from their High Street Arcade store and a few metres from the iconic Womanby Street.

Enjoy delicious coffee on the go and try their exclusive corner affogato - a cold brew infused soft serve with a double shot of espresso. Perfect for hot summer days in the city. 

Nighthawks Wine Bar Opening Soon!

A new independent wine bar will open in Castle Arcade in August. Nighthawks will serve an array of wines from around the world, charcuterie, grilled cheeses and cocktails.
