Biden's Way

Bidenflation is destroying family budgets. Over the last 12 months, the Consumer Price Index increased 9.1 percent! Eye-popping prices force people to make hard decisions about needs and wants as they struggle to pay for food, rent, and gas.

Americans are clearly frustrated with the price of gas. Knowing this, President Biden tweeted his solution:
My message to the companies running gas stations and setting prices at the pump is simple: this is a time of war and global peril. Bring down the price you are charging at the pump to reflect the cost you’re paying for the product. And do it now.
Which part of his tweet bothers you the most?

Biden's ignorance of free-market economics and his audacity to believe that the President holds the power to dictate terms to private citizens is a real pain in the gas!

Were this not so serious, it would be comical. But, this is what too many of our elected officials actually believe.

History has proven what happens when the government decides the price. The most recent example is Venezuela. It doesn't work.

Biden's directive, "do it now," is straight from a socialist command economy textbook and is not how America works.

This is what Biden and White House Democrats believe about our economy and how it should operate. When somebody tells us who they are, believe them. Take it seriously. These are the people creating policies for our country.

The Iowa Way

A strong Iowa will lead the way. Big-government liberals in Washington, D.C. want to change how our economy works so they can spend more and direct how dollars are spent. Whereas in Iowa, we trust individuals to make those decisions better than the government.

A recent ITR Foundation article claims Iowa remains in a strong position thanks to continued revenue growth.

From a cash basis perspective, Iowa ended the fiscal year with $716.8 million, or 8% more than the previous fiscal year. The Revenue Estimating Conference's (REC's) forecast was 4.3%.

Last year, Fiscal Year 2021, revenue grew by about 8% compared to an estimated 2%. This ongoing trend illustrates why Iowa's recent tax reform was so badly needed.

There will be numerous voices inside the Capitol wanting to spend this money. However, with more money coming in, there should be more money going back to taxpayers. Legislators need to hold the line on spending to secure the tax cuts already enacted and create the opportunity for additional tax relief as revenues increase.

Property Taxes

Only government can demand we pay more when we have less.

In the next few weeks, property owners in Iowa will receive their new property tax statements. On the back of these statements, many counties list the local taxing authorities who create your bill, the amount they taxed you, and how much their budget grew from the previous year.

In too many school districts, cities, and counties, there is a gap between the amount of property taxes extracted from citizens and the community's growth.

Is your property tax bill unreasonable? Visit ITRLocal.org to see how yours compares.
