Destinations Detours and Dreams August 2022

Behind The Scenes

Although I was not one of the many people who took to travel in July, I do feel as if the month was a bit of a vacation. There were get-togethers with friends and restaurant outings, all of which felt extra-special after two years of the pandemic.

Out-of-town family visited. We had a marvelous dinner/re-union with my husband's four siblings and their partners. It had been nine years since they'd all been in the same place at the same time.

The focus of our time with our out-of-town guests was visiting, but I did wind up taking them to a few spots around town. In addition to a driving tour past their previous homes, we walked through Back Lane Arctic where we admired the paintings of Arctic wildlife on garage doors and fences, visited the Gardens at the Leaf, and had a lovely lunch at the James Avenue Pumphouse

I also had a chance to do some exploring on my home turf again. I went to the Manitoba Children's Museum with my grandchildren. There were both similarities and differences from the years-ago visits with my daughter and step-daughters.

A day trip took me to Selkirk, Manitoba where I toured the Marine Museum of Manitoba and explored the city's murals. Any guesses as to what you might see in upcoming blog posts?

A Peek Ahead

At the moment it appears August will be more of the same. More getting together with friends. More local exploring.

We will be attending a wedding at a venue a little bit outside of the city. In addition to looking forward to the wedding itself, I look forward to an overnight stay at one of Manitoba's inns.

My husband and I are enjoying the process as we continue to figure out what kinds of outings he can manage given his mobility issues and how to make them work. I am currently working on plans for a four-day trip in September.

Beyond Puerto Vallarta: Bucerías and Sayulita

About visits to towns outside of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Bucerías has a long stretch of beach and a colourful market. Lively Sayulita has a fun, hippie vibe and is a "Pueblo Magico." There are plenty of restaurants, galleries, and markets. It is known for surfing and yoga. You can find retreats offering both.
