Long Bridge Swim

North Idaho's premier open-water event

This 1.76-mile swim across Lake Pend Oreille gets its namesake from the Long Bridge into Sandpoint, Idaho. On Saturday, August 6, participants will swim parallel to the bridge throughout the entirety of the event, giving friends, family, and curious onlookers the perfect chance to follow along the swim course from the bridge.
Money raised goes towards the LBS Swim Lesson Initiative! Their mission is to see that no child in Bonner County gets past third grade without learning to swim.

The 2022 Sandpoint Rodeo
Coming to the Bonner County Fairgrounds August 5 - 6

While technically a "small" rodeo (the Sandpoint Rodeo won the PRCA Columbia River Circuit Small Rodeo of the Year in 2016!) this event is packed with excitement.

This year all of the fan-favorite events are back. We will see competitors riding bareback, bull riding, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, team roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing, and breakaway roping. This year's must-see specialty act is tricker-rider Haley Proctor!

Shakespeare in the Park

The Twelfth Night coming to Lakeview Park on August 20

Head on down to Lakeview Park, 901 Ontario St., at 5 pm on August 20 to watch this comedy having to do with mistaken identity, and romantic misunderstandings. It is suitable for families, and a wonderful way to introduce children to Shakespeare.

This is a free event performed by Montana Shakespeare in the Parks. Before the play begins there will be local musicians and possibly a short skit by local youth.

Lesser-known Hike of the Month

Throughout summer we will feature a "local secret" hike!

August's "lesser-known hike of the month" is Caribou Lake. This hike is accessible for all ages and skill levels and takes into account the smoke moving into the area. While this hike isn't the longest, clocking in at around 4.2 miles, you get your workout by climbing around 1,023 feet while on the trail. You'll want a high-clearance vehicle to get to the trailhead, or just park a bit lower down. Other hikers who have completed this trail recommend going above the lake to take in even better views!

Be sure to bring plenty of water, leash your dogs, take care hiking in smoky conditions, and most importantly have FUN! Happy hiking!
