COVENANT OF NATIONS PARTNERS WITH HIP
Responding to the challenges of today.  Together.

UPDATE from Committee- Aug 2022

"For many months, working closely with the Chiefs, Clan Mothers and Faith Keepers of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and the spiritual societies of the Anishinaabeg Nation, we’ve been paddling our canoe through the rough waters of the COVID-19 global pandemic that has been devastating to our ceremony hosts, the Onondaga Nation who remain among the most vulnerable in the Unites States and have experienced terrible losses.

The Haudenosaunee leaders have graciously decided that they will visit the Anishinaabeg leaders, in their territory, to continue discussions and planning of the ceremony. This planning meeting is, in and of itself, a historic moment and reveals the depth of respect and magnitude that the ceremony holds for both Nations.

The hard-working planning team continues to meet regularly for fundraising updates, and to advance the details needed to solidify plans for this event. Our perseverance in this labour of love and dedication to peace, friendship and the desire for the renewal of the power of our wampum belts keeps our fundraising teams and planning teams fully motivated to see the ceremony unfold.

We are so grateful for all those supporters and allies who have donated to the Covenant of Nations gathering. The planning team are making arrangements to defer your kind contributions in trust  into the Fall 2022 or into 2023. Dates will follow."

Rotary HIP is excited to support the Covenant of Nations. The goal of the Sacred Wampum gathering is to revitalize the original strong, respectful relationship between the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and the Anishinaabeg Nation to be better able to respond to challenges to nationhood, the environment, and the future of both nations.

"Relationship building is the cornerstones of HIP's mission," says John Currie, Executive Director of HIP. "We are proud to play a supporting role and know this event will make a lasting impact that will be documented as an example for peacebuilding around the world."

The Haudenosaunee Confederacy and the Anishinaabeg Nation last met together in 1840. This wampum has not been renewed since that time.
