Emotion Cards Help Children Explore Feelings
Act Belong Commit has launched a set of emotion cards designed to encourage children to explore and reflect upon their feelings, and help them identify and understand their emotions.
Illustrated by talented DADAA participant Amber Clark, the emotion cards feature a ring tail possum and depicts 12 different emotions such as sad, happy, scared and jealous. The cards were developed with the assistance of Curtin University’s Aussie Optimism, a school-based emotional and mental resilience program.

Family connect
"Connecting with children and supporting their emotional well-being and mental health"
The Family Connect program provides families with a healthy emotional system to implement at home which supports listening, appreciation, emotional literacy and self-responsibility for the family. Uniquely, the whole family learns these skills together to support great relationships and good mental health outcomes.
Relationships Australia encourages all Australians to make use of this Program, and to discover these practical tools for emotional wellbeing and resilience.

Western Australian Community Achievement Awards
The WA Community Achievements Awards started in 2002 to encourage, acknowledge and reward the valuable contributions individuals, communities and businesses are making throughout Western Australia. The awards aim to recognise their success and achievements which contribute to making Western Australia a better place.

Reducing Financial Red Tape
Financial reporting thresholds will be increased under new regulations aimed at reducing the burden on WA’s incorporated associations.
The revenue bands will be increased as follows:
- Tier 1 – currently less than $250,000, will become less than $500,000.
- Tier 2 – currently $250,000 to $1 million, will become $500,000 to $3 million.
- Tier 3 – currently more than $1 million, will become more than $3 million.
This proposed change is part of the State Government’s commitment to red tape reduction and sees the thresholds become consistent nationally.
The current three-tier system of reporting is based on the association’s revenue. It is designed to minimise the obligations on small associations, while ensuring larger associations are accountable to their members for their financial management.
The new regulations, currently being drafted by Consumer Protection, will bring WA in line with the national reporting requirements of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC), providing simplicity, clarity and consistency.

Work Health & Safety Laws Include Volunteers
New work health and safety laws came into effect on 31 March 2022 and now recognise the role of volunteers and their right to be safe.
WorkSafe Western Australia has developed a guide on how the new laws apply to organisations which engage volunteers. It outlines the primary duty that organisations have to workers and volunteers and how to meet this duty.

The Power of Volunteering
Volunteering WA provides leadership and support to volunteer-involving organisations throughout the State. Becoming a member gives you access to a broad range of valuable services and benefits for you and your organisation. However, it's more than this... it’s about you, me and many others, recognising the essential contribution of volunteers and volunteering in our communities, as well as our organisations, and working together to lead, advance and celebrate volunteering in WA.

Foundation For Rural Regional Renewal (FRRR) ABC Heywire Youth Innovation Grant
Grants of up to $10,000 are now available for communities across Australia to adopt, adapt and act on one of six ideas:
- The Allies Project: How might we celebrate the strength of regional LGBTQIA+ people and educate rural communities on the importance of being an ally?
- SPIN – Supporting People In Need: How might we improve morale in regional communities?
- Take Care: How might we promote healthier communities in regional Australia?
- Hands on Learning: How might we support young people to learn in ways that work for them?
- Triple H- Humanity Helping Homelessness: How might we reduce homelessness and support people who are experiencing it?
- Fusion Festival: How might we raise cultural awareness and stop racism in regional communities?
FRRR and their donor partners collaborate with ABC Heywire to help communities take action on the ideas generated by young Australians who attend the annual Heywire Regional Youth Summit.

Healthy Sports Program
Sport clubs and associations can apply for funding of up to $4,000 to implement healthy eating initiatives, eg, promoting healthy snacks and drinks pre, during and post-game, and improving canteen/kiosk facilities to provide healthier options.

Drug Aware YCulture Regional
Are you aged 12-26 and living in regional WA? Do you want to develop your creative skills and gain experience by running an arts project in your community? Drug Aware YCulture Regional offers grants for arts projects run by young people, for young people, see the link below for further details. Applications close 30 November 2022.

Club Night Lights Program
This program aims to provide financial assistance to community groups and local governments to develop sports floodlighting infrastructure. It also aims to maintain or increase participation in sport and recreation with an emphasis on physical activity, through rational development of good quality, well-designed and well-utilised facilities. Applications close 30 September 2022.

Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF)
This program seeks to provide Western Australian Government financial assistance to community groups and local governments to develop basic infrastructure for sport and recreation. It aims to maintain or increase participation in sport and recreation, with an emphasis on physical activity, through development of sustainable, good quality, well-designed and well-utilized facilities. There are three types of grants available: Small Grants, Annual Grants and Forward Planning Grants. Applications close 30 September 2022.

The Heart Foundation has up to ten $10,000 grants available for new, innovative projects that get more people moving in schools, universities or local community groups. The Active Australia Innovation Challenge strongly encourages innovative projects that support people who do not meet Australia’s Physical Activity Guidelines, people at risk of chronic disease, and people living in communities with high levels of physical inactivity (including rural and remote regions). This includes people identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

CBH’s Grass Roots Community Grants
CBH’s Grass Roots Community Grants provide financial assistance to grain growing communities for projects which contribute to the health and vitality of their community. They have grants available for up to $5,000 for events and up to $10,000 for small-scale infrastructure projects.
Applications are open now and close 31 August 2022.
