COVID-19 testing reminder

If you have COVID-19 symptoms, you should get a test as soon as possible.

You can use a rapid antigen test (RAT) or get a PCR test.

If a RAT shows you have COVID-19, you do not need to confirm this with a PCR test. If a RAT shows that you do not have COVID-19 but you have symptoms, you should get a PCR test to confirm your result.

If you are a close contact with no COVID-19 symptoms or you are an eligible concession card holder, you get access free RAT from a RAT Collection Point in South Australia. You must register before collecting your tests.

For more information on what COVID-19 test to have, visit www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/COVIDtesting.

Understanding your RAT result

A rapid antigen test (RAT) is an easy way to find out if you have COVID-19.

You can do the test yourself without a doctor, in the comfort of your own home, and get the results in just 10 to 20 minutes.

It is important that you know what your result means.

RATs vary depending on the brand. Follow the instructions included with your test to make sure you get an accurate result.
If your result shows 2 lines = you have COVID-19.

You need to:
  • stay home and isolate for 7 days from the day you took the test.
  • report your result on the SA Health website or call 1800 253 787 (8am to 8pm) within 24 hours.
  • tell your close contacts (people you live with and have been around) so they can isolate and get tested.
If your result shows 1 line at the ‘C’ only and you DON’T have COVID-19 symptoms = you don’t have COVID-19.
  • If you are a close contact, you should stay in isolation (7 days from date of exposure).
If your result shows 1 line at the ‘C’ only and you DO have COVID symptoms = you might still have COVID-19.

You should:
  • Get a PCR test to confirm the result especially if you have COVID-19 symptoms. The result on your RAT may not be correct.
  • If you are a close contact, stay in isolation as required (7 days from date of exposure)
  • Report your result on the SA Health website or call 1800 253 787 (8am to 8pm).
If your result shows 1 line at the ‘R’ only, or no lines at all = your test didn’t work.

You should:
  • Do another rapid antigen test.
  • If you do not have access to any more tests, get a PCR test as soon as possible and isolate until you get your result confirming you don’t have COVID.
