On Mondays, my husband and I go on lunch dates!

I really love this weekly routine we’ve set for our marriage — a great way to debrief and just be with each other after a weekend full of activities and playing with the kids.

Over at lunch this week, Johnny mentioned this article: Couples say the key to happy marriage is the '2-2-2 rule'. Basically, the rule includes having set date nights, weekends and week-long trips as a couple.

We do very well at dates and are only semi-good at the other two (a pandemic and a childcare, you know?). But having weekends and week-long trips is definitely something we can work towards and look forward to. We’re thinking about Iceland next summer!

Whether or not you’re in a relationship, having a routine is healthy and important. It’s been proven to help alleviate anxiety, promote mental health and combat burnout. It can also help you through really stressful times.

Here are 5 daily / weekly routine you can sprinkle into your calendar today:

  1. Stick to a morning routine, whether it’s meditation or working out.

  2. Drink a glass of water every 2 hours. An alarm helps!

  3. Go for a walk at the same time every day

  4. Call your dad / mom / sister

  5. Do a daily gratitude practice with your kids at bedtime: Ours is best part of your day, worst part of your day, what you’re looking forward to tomorrow.
