Major progress for action to address acid mine drainage crisis as STREAM Act passes House with strong bipartisan support

Today, advocates for abandoned mine clean up and clean water across the country celebrated as the U.S. House passed the Safeguarding Treatment for the Restoration of Ecosystems from Abandoned Mines (STREAM) Act — bipartisan legislation that would guarantee that major new investments in abandoned mine land clean up can be directed to address the acid mine drainage (AMD) crisis that threatens waterways across the country

Punxsy firefighters clean up fuel spill in creek

A passerby spotted what appeared to be a fuel spill Friday evening in the Mahoning Creek on Route 36 and Front Street, where the cement slabs underneath the East End Bridge have been undergoing replacement for the last two years.

Sewage bills rise as a $2 billion project gets underway

After decades of legal wrangling, political infighting, public pressure campaigns, billion-dollar changes and a sewage system that has continued to pour millions of gallons of raw sewage into the rivers nearly every time it rains – the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority is finally knee-deep in large construction projects, and customers are starting to complain about rising bills.

3RQ Updates 

GAPS Assistance Program

Generating Awareness for Project Success (GAPS) is a collaboration between the Foundation for Pennsylvania Watersheds (FPW) and Three Rivers QUEST (3RQ) to assist grass-roots organizations within the Allegheny and Monongahela river basins with preparing and applying for successful remediation projects. Utilizing field teams and researchers, 3RQ will provide watershed groups with the information and technical expertise needed to prepare successful proposals that secure funding for the engineering and construction of nonpoint source remediation projects.

EQT Foundation Grant

The EQT Foundation’s funding strategy endorses programs that directly impact the community and its residents, rather than fundraising initiatives designed to support general operating expenses. The Foundation supports projects that demonstrate positive, significant, measurable and sustainable impacts, preferring proposals grounded in solid research and analysis that demonstrate creative approaches to addressing critical issues. The EQT Foundation also seeks evidence of:

  • Geographic setting that aligns with EQT Corporation’s business locations;
  • Ability to manage available resources effectively; and
  • Outreach that gains solid public recognition and support for the nonprofit, its programs and sponsors.

The EQT Foundation Board of Directors meets quarterly. All applications must be received by the first of the month prior to the month of the meeting (see calendar below).

  • August 1
  • November 1
