This Month's Production Tip:
Different Lighting Techniques
The image above is a lighting cheat sheet from nofilmschool.com. The article "13 Film Lighting Techniques Every Filmmaker Should Know" does a great job breaking down common lighting techniques, all while providing examples! Lighting is often an overlooked part of the production process for newcomers in the field. Utilizing different lighting techniques/styles is a great way to take your projects to the next level. Lighting can drastically effect your viewers mood. It is a powerful tool, that when used correctly, helps move your storyline forward.

An example we like to give is - imagine your favorite horror movie. Think back to a dramatic, dimly lit scene that left you feeling on edge. Now, imagine that same scene evenly lit, so we can see almost everything on set (this is often how sitcoms are lit). You probably wouldn't feel that same "on edge" suspenseful feeling that you did with the first lighting technique. Keeping in mind how the lighting of your video will effect your viewer is an important next step you can take to improve your skills.
Production Opportunities

Their are many ways to get involved with WHCA productions! You can create your own episode of one of our pre-existing shows such as Outdoor Adventures, or Geekology. You can also keep an eye on out Crew Call for emerging opportunities! Interested? Let's chat! Email us at info@whca.tv.

Thank you for reading and we hope to see you at WHCA or one of the two communities that we proudly serve. If you have any questions, please feel free to call us, as the WHCA staff looks forward to working with you!
