Hello Friends and Neighbors,

What a joy it was to experience Driggs Plein Air Festival up close and personal this summer! With it being hosted in our City Center building and plaza, I saw it evolve daily right next to my office. The Downtown Driggs Association’s dedicated staff and many volunteers made it all come together beautifully. And the artists- ah, the artists! I kept hearing them say to their peers that “the competition is steep!” Whether an artist, spectator, or art collector, everyone in attendance was excited to see the next group of paintings come in every day, and the whole event was filled with encouragement, camaraderie, enthusiasm, and passion.  Every group played a key role in making the Plein Air Festival a success.

It seems this is how our town works, too. We are all chipping in. We all play a part in making Driggs a better place. Whether you own, work, or shop at a local business, you are doing your part daily. Perhaps you pick up litter in the park when your child is playing, stop your car for someone to walk across the street, or say hello when passing someone on the sidewalk. Maybe you sit on a board or committee, or if you would like an opportunity to give back in this way, be sure to read our article about Board Openings. We need everyone’s talent, kindness, and service for a thriving community. Thank you for playing your part!

And thank you to those who attended the latest Community Conversations with a focus on housing. We are having meaningful conversations about real needs in Driggs, and I am looking forward to our next session called ‘What Can We Add to Our Plaza?’ The City was awarded an $85,000 grant from the Blue Cross Foundation to create an outdoor gathering space, and we are excited to get this project moving forward. Please come to the Plaza on Friday, August 12, at 5:30 pm to help us shape the next chapter of our plaza space!

Wishing you long summer days filled with all the things you love,
August

P.S. There is still art hanging inside the City Center to buy, or just to view, of all the beautiful landscapes right in our own backyard.

The City of Driggs and Driggs-Reed Memorial Airport recently closed the purchase of 245 acres at the northeast end of the airport.  The reason for the acquisition is to allow for a runway shift of approximately 1000 feet North East to remove portions of Highway 33 and several residences from the RPZ (runway protection zone).   The land was purchased from TTLF Holdings and will continue to be leased for agricultural use until runway construction begins.  Although the runway will be shifted, the approach pattern at the north end of the runway will not change as existing natural obstructions will prevent any lower approaches than those that already exist.

Free Youth Flights

September 17th, 2022- For young people aged 8-17

Ever wondered what your neighborhood looks like from the sky? Or maybe you’re curious about how airplanes even work. You might even dream about being a pilot.

If you’re nodding your head “Yes” and are between the ages of 8 and 17, you’re ready to take a free Young Eagles flight and see what real pilots do on the ground and in the air

After two years off, the EAA, Young Eagles, program is back, for our 30th Anniversary, at Driggs Airport.  Young Eagles is the only program of its kind, dedicated to giving youth ages 8–17 their first free ride in an airplane.  To date, we have introduced over two million kids into the world of aviation.
