Ey up <<First Name>>, how are you?

As I mentioned last week, on Monday I started my new role as Secretary for the British Guild of Beer Writers. My first day took me down to London for a hand over from outgoing secretary Nat Watson and the first meeting of the Guild’s new board. Everyone was very welcoming and I am really looking forward to what we can all achieve together.

It wasn’t all work, as the day also coincided with two Guild events. The first was a very entertaining and interesting seminar called ‘Ancient Brewing in Plain Sight’, led by Tim O’Rourke, followed by the Guild’s Summer Party. As you probably guessed, the day was very long for me, but was very enjoyable!

Last week, we were left on a dramatic cliff hanger as the top two beers for the Beer name of the Month June award were tied! After allowing overtime and receiving a flurry of votes, one clear winner has emerged. Congratulations go to Kirkstall Brewery and Northern Monk for their collaboration beer ‘Eeh Bah Gumball’. Voting for July is now open!

In this week’s issue of Leeds Beer Shorts, Amity to feature in Elusive’s Collabageddon, Horsforth’s Big Gay Beer, Kirstall to host Kirkstapalooza and lots more.

Brewery Shorts

Welcome to new subscribers! This section is a news digest of happenings at Leeds-based breweries in the last 7 days. The newsletter is prepared on a Thursday, so any news that breweries release between the final draft and the email arriving in your inbox on a Friday, will be included in the next newsletter. If you want to find out more about a particular piece of news, click the word that is underlined and coloured blue. Finally, if you have seen some news online this week and it isn’t mentioned below, it means I have covered it in a previous issue, or there is not enough information for it to feature yet. If you would like to access a directory of Leeds-based breweries, there’s a link at the bottom of this newsletter.

Thank you for reading this week’s edition of Leeds Beer Shorts. If you have any feedback on the newsletter, please get in touch via email (hello@leedsbeertours.co.uk), or message me on my social media accounts.

Cheers and take care!
