HCIAS Summer School: JUNCTURES_2022
The HCIAS International Summer School: Critical Junctures and Windows of Opportunity for (Post-) Pandemic Societies in Europe and Latin America took place in Heidelberg from July 25th to August 2nd, 2022. The academic event brought together 18 participants from Latin America and Germany, and guest professors from various universities from Germany and Chile, who joined the HCIAS teaching staff during the week. The organization of the Summer School was financed by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Visiting Scholars

Lionel Brossi | Berkman Klein Center
Lionel Brossi, assistant professor at the Faculty of Communication and Image of the University of Chile, visited the HCIAS between July 25th and August 1st. Lionel Brossi collaborates with the HCIAS in the international virtual academic project "CS@Ibero-America" and in the project "Los discursos públicos de la pandemia en Iberoamérica".
During his visit, he gave a lecture on “Moderation and Algorithmic Personalization in Social Networks and Digital Platforms” within the framework of the HCIAS summer school JUNCTURES_2022.

Alejandro Ecker - Uni Heidelberg
HCIAS Junior Professor of Politics and Communication in Ibero-America Alejandro Ecker contributes to the new issue of the magazine Ruperto Carola with an article on political compromise. In this paper, Alejandro Ecker outlines the theoretical and methodological challenges of studying the conditions under which voters are willing to accept political compromises via a series of experimental studies in Europe and Ibero-America.

Rosa Lehmann, HCIAS Junior Professor of Innovation and Sustainability in Ibero-America, presents her work "Search for the hard core of sustainability" in the new issue of the Ruperto Carola magazine. In her contribution, Rosa Lehmann discusses the importance of constructing sustainability from its three core dimensions: ecology, economy, and society.

HCIAS Blog

We are very glad to announce the launch of the HCIAS Blog: Perspectives on Ibero-America. As an interdisciplinary space for knowledge transfer, the HCIAS Blog will contain contributions from HCIAS scholars and students on the social, cultural, and environmental realities of Ibero-America from different perspectives of the social sciences and the humanities.
Check out our first blog post by Junior Professor Rosa Lehmann and research associate Alejandra Irigoyen on their research project: Exploring Polycentric Climate Governance in Latin America.

HCIAS Podcast

We also invite you to tune in to our new HCIAS Podcast: Connecting Ibero-America. This project is focused on knowledge transfer at the HCIAS and is a space for scientific dialogue on current research questions about the macro-region of Ibero-America and its societies. In each episode, HCIAS researchers and guest scholars discuss different topics and ongoing research projects in order to present our audience with a variety of perspectives on the complex  realities of the region.

Our first episode features Cecilia Menjívar: A critical voice to understand migration in complex times, and opens up the podcast series on Migration and the Americas, a joint collaboration with the Heidelberg Center for American Studies (HCA).
