2. CP giving above budget by $10.4 million through July

Giving through the National Cooperative Program Allocation Budget remains far ahead of its annual goal with the fiscal year total growing to nearly $169 million—more than $10.4 million over the projected giving.

3. Kentucky, 7 other states have Disaster Relief boots on ground in eastern Kentucky

Ron Crow, the director of the Kentucky Baptist District Relief, is coordinating teams from eight different states as they work together in eastern Kentucky’s flooded areas. He said the flooding is some of the worst he’s ever witnessed.

4. Iowa church blessed by being ‘a giving church’

“I’m just excited about some trends we are seeing in our church now,” Pastor Charles “Chuck” Spindler told Baptist Press recently. “Post-pandemic I’m seeing people with a desire to get reconnected, especially young families."

6. On this day in SBC history...

In 1987 - Missionary Troy Waldron Killed in Ethiopia Helicopter Crash

The business manager for the Southern Baptist mission in Ethiopia died in a helicopter crash Aug. 4 as he was flying to meet Ethiopian agricultural officials in a remote area. The pilot also was killed.

  • Golf: Phil Mickelson and 10 others have sued the PGA Tour for antitrust violations after being suspended from playing on the Tour when they signed with LIV Golf.
  • NCAAW: Paige Bueckers will miss the season for UConn after tearing her ACL.
  • NFL: The league has appealed Deshaun Watson's 6-game suspension asking for it to be lengthened.
