Our integrated inquiry focuses on our local Taupō area. We are lucky enough to live in an area that many others consider a holiday hotspot. Students will be learning about their local area, in the inquiry "Our Place Moves Me". We will explore the questions:
- Why would you live in Taupō ?
- What do we want Taupō to be like in 10 years?
Social Science
This inquiry has a Social Science focus, while continuing with Health and Physical Education and Digital Technology curriculum areas, with the big ideas of:
- People connect to places in many ways.
- Places provide a home for people.
Learning experiences will include students:
- Investigating why local places are important.
- Investigating how our area has changed over time.
- Identifying local natural resources.
- Identifying economic resources in our region.
- Classifying resources as natural and human made resources.
- Comparing and contrasting local resources.
- Using graphic organisers to organise, clarify and simplify information.
- Creating social actions and future plans for our local area.
English
Students will write personal responses about their experiences and connections to Taupō area with a focus on persuasive writing techniques to persuade an audience of their opinions.
When Reading, students will recognise keywords, summarising texts, and developing research skills. They will continue to experience using graphic organisers and nonfiction texts.
Mathematics
Number: students will investigate patterns and relationships and fractions of shapes and sets.
Statistics: students will investigate, create, understand, and respond to statistical data and graphs related to Taupō. Students will use probability statements to explain their thinking about data.
Heath and Physical Education
Students will generate, evaluate and use fitness circuits to support personal fitness.
Digital Technology
Students will use Google applications such as slide shows and surveys to present their learning about "Our Place Moves Me".
We will be reaching out to our local community to support us with our "Our Place Moves Me" inquiry. Your local knowledge is extremely important. We are hoping to find some parents or grandparents that can talk to our students about our school, village, and Taupō town in the past. Please let us know when you can be available. We will provide you with question students will want answered.
