From the President...

I hope you are all well... I know this can be a somewhat trite saying, but I really mean it - there is a lot of illness going around and we are seeing it in the numbers of players unavailable for training and games... I really do hope and pray that everyone recovers well. I would also like to ask ALL of you to please be diligent about informing your team manager and/or coach if you are going to be away or unable to be at training or games - it actually affects the whole team when ONE member is not there and it makes it very difficult for our volunteer coaches. I sometimes receive phone calls at 8am on a Saturday asking if I can find a substitute player - this is TOUGH and it sometimes means that teams are playing with the bare 11 or worse still 10... PLEASE can we change this even at this late point of the season and finish well!

Including tomorrow (Sat 30/07) we have 6 rounds of games left - and there are a number of IMPORTANT EVENTS coming up and they will all be at KNOX PARK - OUR HOME!

Saturday 20 August - KCSC BIG FREEZE @ 11am
Saturday 3 September - Last week of KickStart and Last round of Competition games for Juniors and Seniors
Saturday 10 September - VCFA Senior Cup Finals (5 games) and VCFA Junior & VCFA Senior Presentations from 6pm (after Cup Finals)
Saturday 17 September - KCSC KickStart & Junior Presentation @ 9am - 12.30pm
Saturday 17 September - KCSC Senior Presentation @ Monash ParkROYAL

Please mark these dates down and make every effort to be at the events relevant to you AND consider supporting KCSC as much as you can.

Finally - I mentioned FINISHING STRONG - please consider this in these last 6 rounds.. whether you are a player, coach, team manager, parent or spectator - PLEASE let's make a conscious effort to ENCOURAGE our players, THANK our volunteers, RESPECT our referees, officials, opposition and each other - REMEMBER why we are here and why we do what we do - We desire to Bring Honour to God Through Sport AND we wish to give EVERY person that wants to participate in The World Game the BEST OPPORTUNITY do do that. So will you be in UNITY with us in achieving this to the end of the season.

May God bless you and I look forward to chatting with you around the club... Please also note David and Grace (our baristas) have gone to Malaysia to be with David's dad as he is quite ill... we hope to have a substitute coffee van at the club for your morning coffee!

Blessings

“Oh Come on referee! Blow your whistle!”

The referee is the figure we all love to hate! We all think we can do the job of the referee better than the ref himself! Everything looks so black and white from the sidelines and easy to make decisions.
I have been doing some reffing myself this year and suddenly have a greater respect for the referee. I realise they are only humans doing their best! No player has the prefect game and neither does the referee!

The referee has decided often voluntarily to take on a huge responsibility to manage un the game! The referee has to manage often up to thirty people skilfully and without bias or prejudice.
The referee has put his or her hand up to run the game and manage the players. The referee is willing to take on a huge responsibility often on a voluntary unpaid basis!
So my question to you is what responsibility will you willing take on to help others around the Club or in your team?

Will YOU be willing to get to the ground early to set up goalposts or wash uniforms? Or in a bigger step will you be willing to help manage or coach a junior team to allow the team to play and the players to enjoy themselves.

We must all look at ourselves and have a SERVANT attitude of Jesus to serve our team! So the challenge is how can you serve your team and the present coach and manager through a long and sometimes challenging seas

Maybe you could say a word of thanks and encouragement. Or in a bigger step offer to take a coaching session or at least be there to support the coach!

My challenge for you is how can you embrace responsibility rather than run away from it! Can you do an act of service and kindness to encourage your team’s coach and manger as they reach the end of the season!

I (Andrew Farmer) am often at Knox Park most Saturday mornings around the junior games and always willing to chat and pray with Club members and supporters. Look out for me in my claret and blue West Ham hat!

Blessings

Hamstrings!

Did you know that hamstrings are among the most frequently reported injuries in soccer? They account for about 37% of muscular injuries in the sport!! 😱

Hamstrings are a collective term for 3 major muscles in the back of your thigh. They not only work to help you bend your knee, but also have the amazing function of decelerating and stabilising your knee when it is completely straightened out. One of these muscles has 2 heads and is primarily impacted with sprinting, while the other two muscles tend to get injured with excessive stretching, such as while kicking

In order to prevent these muscles from getting injured, it is imperative to train the function that is most associated with injuries: their ability to decelerate.

Nordic hamstring curls are hence a great addition to your training routine.

Nordic hamstring curls:
[Beginner: aim for 3-5 reps / Intermediate: aim for 7-10 reps /  Advanced: aim for 12-15 reps]

This exercise is best done in pairs. Begin with arms crossed across chest, kneeling with your thighs and trunk aligned a right angle to your legs. Your partner should hold down your feet and legs onto the ground.

The aim of the exercise is to lower your trunk to the ground, without bending at the hip as low as you can and break your fall with a push up

Make sure you follow these through during the week post trainingLike any strength exercise, you need to continue to do it every alternate day, to ensure you are allowing your muscles to recover as well as increase in strength.

Below are a few things to consider to identify a potential hamstring strain:
  • Do you experience pain in your hamstrings during or after running, sprinting, kicking, bending your knee?
  • Do you need to stop the activity due to pain in your hamstrings?
  • Does the pain persist even after stopping the activity?
  • Does the pain feel different to the other leg?
If you answered yes to any of those questions, don’t ignore the signs and consult a Physiotherapist for an assessment. At Back In Motion, we offer a free initial assessment, so call in/ book online and take advantage of this service!

Tune into next week’s article to learn about knee and ankle injuries and tips on prevention and identification!
