QUOTE OF THE MONTH
"The lock seeks its key, the wall seeks its door, and we who would pass learn at last that they are not our servants."

— Willem Harries, former Librarian of House House
BOOK OF HOURS
We revealed BOOK OF HOURS' new art style last month (video here!) and now have another room to share: welcome to the Chapel Calcite, a sea-cave consecrated by the Sisterhood of the Triple Knot beneath the earliest foundations of Hush House. It won't be immediately available to you in-game - you'll need to progress through the upper levels, and then gain the resources required to excavate it. It could be a cave-in. It could be flooded by the sea. Or someone might've left a pot of Watch-Worms in there 2,000 years ago...
Special shout-out to this genuine Minoan clay bird jug, all the way from 2600–2300 BC. I shall call him Bobo and he shall be mine and he shall be my Bobo.
AK, meanwhile, has been working on our upcoming playable prototype of the game and confirming all the bajillion skills you'll be able to master in-game. Perhaps you'll specialise in the "Discipline Ogdoad", overcoming boundaries through determination. Or tinker your way to victory with "Lockworks & Clockworks", learning the little ways of little machines. Or perhaps you'll become a collector of tales and specialise in "Wolf Stories" - as the saying goes, "Sometimes we eat the wolf, and sometimes the wolf eats us."

More updates soon! With more art, more lore and maybe even a prototype. 🤫
QUICK LINKS
NOOK OF SPOOK:
THE HEART-EATING PERYTON OF NOT-QUITE-DOOM
First named by Jorge Luis Borges in his Book of Imaginary Beings, the peryton is a half-stag, half-bird nightmare dating back at least to the Middle Ages. It has the shadow of a man UNTIL IT KILLS SOMEONE, whereupon it reverts to a proper shadow. Gary Gygax included it in the first D&D Monster Manual and, er, made it a bit less scary. AK is particularly enamoured by D&D!peryton's "horrible but vague reproductive needs" and the inexplicably bland closer: "Perytons speak their own language." OKAY GARY SURE
READING REC: THE LAST LEGENDS OF EARTH
"Two billion years ago, [the Sun] died and incinerated the Earth. This happened long after human life had become extinct... The being that regenerated you made these planets, the swarms of planetesimals, asteroids, and comets, and our two suns: the black hole Saor and the radiant star Lod, which is really not a star but a machine... The truth is, this entity regenerated you to serve as bait for yet another alien intelligence, its enemy, a species of sapient, winged spiders called zōtl. Zōtl eat people."

All this is on page one. "After that," AK says, "Attanasio gets inventive."
