Life Plan Humboldt is creating community, meet your new neighbors!
August 2022 Update
Greetings to friends, supporters, and future residents,

We continue to gather support AND we have been having fun!
Here are some highlights...

At the end of July we had a great appreciation party for our donors and supporters at Septentrio's.

The Affiliation Committee has been invited to visit Rosa Villa Senior Living Community in Portland in September to learn more about their Life Plan community and to meet their RV executive committee.

Our information table at the Arcata Co-Op during the Tuesday senior shopping day was a hit.

Since our last newsletter LPH has received large donations and pledges from local businesses as well as private donors.

We are looking at property sites near McKinleyville Town Center and in Arcata near M street. We may have the ability to partner with Rural Communities Housing Development Corporation to incorporate afforadble housing into our general plan. Stay tuned.

Innovative Memory Care at Life Plan Humboldt
JoAnn Schuch

It is natural to have occasional trouble with our memory, but as we get older forgetfulness can impact our quality of life, and dementia, the impaired ability to remember, think, or make decisions, can interfere with doing everyday activities.

Two of the goals in building Life Plan Humboldt (LPH) are to create:
  1. an environment that slows the onset of memory loss and dementia for all our residents.
  2. a separate home-like place if people do need assistance, based on concepts pioneered by the Green House Project (https://thegreenhouseproject.org).

Ann Lindsay, President of Life Plan Humboldt, will be interviewing three current residents of life plan communities about their decisions to move and their experiences in a life plan community.
Eva Laevastu and Kathy Blume moved away from Humboldt County to Willamette View in Portland.  Holly Jordan lives with her husband in Clark Lindsay in Urbana Illinois.
August is  MAKE A WILL MONTH!
"Getting a will isn't the most pleasant of tasks, and consequently, too few people do it. A recent survey of more than 2,000 people by the online legal service Rocket Lawyer found that 64 percent don't have wills. The biggest reason cited by folks: They just never got around to it. Some said they didn't want to think about death." AARP

We Need Your Support Too!
Our goal is to raise a total of $2 million by 2024, as our "down payment" on what will be a $79 million project. We have raised $877,000 in grants, donations, and pledges.  We hope to hear favorable news about several grant applications soon, but urge you all to keep the pledges rolling in.  We are a bit short of our $1 million goal for this summer!

Thanks to all of you who have gotten us to this point.  With such support, we will succeed to build Life Plan Humboldt, an asset for elders and the whole Humboldt community.
If you have not pledged support,

Cal Poly Humboldt Professor & LPH Ambassador Ara Pachmayer

"I got involved with Life Plan Humboldt because I wanted to learn more about the life plan model for my parents (who are my models for aging well!). I think it's critical for all of us in this region to understand how important it is for our older community members to have the option to stay in this magical place that we call home. I’m happy to support Life Plan Humboldt's goals and look forward to seeing the community we create.”

Got Questions?
Question:
How can Life Plan Humboldt decrease social isolation and loneliness that affects so many older adults?

Answer:
Social isolation and loneliness in older adults are serious public health risks. Social isolation results in the same health risks as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, obesity or high blood pressure.  27% of individuals over 60 live alone. Choosing to live at Life Plan Humboldt is a solution to loneliness. The cornerstone of Life Plan Humboldt is aging in community, with neighbors close by, service staff, caregivers and our families. We will have a plethora of activities, classes and social events to enrich our lives. We hope you move into LPH to live life....
