Middle school sports options and access expanding this year

More students will have access to more options this year as Battle Ground Public Schools continues its rollout of middle school sports. The district is adding girls volleyball and co-ed track in 2022-23, in addition to longer seasons of basketball, soccer and cross country. Except for soccer, all sports will be open to students in grades 6–8. Soccer will be available to 7th and 8th grade students.

Registration for each sport opens a few weeks before the season, with girls basketball and co-ed cross country registration beginning Aug. 10. The district is currently seeking coaches for the upcoming seasons. Visit our employment page for a list of available positions and more information on how to apply.

More information about the expansion of middle school sports is available on the district website.

BGPS’ Board of Directors conducted a regular board meeting on Monday, July 25. Highlights are in this week's BG Board, Briefly. Archived video of board meetings is available on the district website. The next regular board meeting will be held on Aug. 7 at 6:00 p.m.

Lewisville campus nearly ready to welcome CAM Academy students

It's been more than 13 years since students last attended school on the Lewisville campus, but that will change in August as the district prepares for the temporary relocation of CAM Academy until more permanent classrooms are constructed nearby. Supply chain issues delayed the arrival of a modular building, making it necessary for facilities crews to shift gears and increase the number of temporary classrooms in the Lewisville A, B, and C buildings from eight to 18. The project includes new lighting, plumbing, fixtures, roof repairs, and plenty of other improvements. The district is hopeful the first modular will be ready when students return from winter break, but we are excited to offer a greatly improved Lewisville campus to house them until then.

Summer school wraps up for hundreds of students

Nearly 700 students in grades K-8 received support to reach grade level skills at Battle Ground Public Schools' Summer Academy from July 11-28. This is the second year the district used one-time federal relief funds known as ESSER to expand summer school and offer bus transportation to those who need it. More than 60 teachers, classified employees, nurses and administrators worked to support students who attended.

At the high school level, 216 students took advantage of free credit recovery courses. Another 225 students enrolled in original credit courses or booster (prep) courses. Classes are completed primarily online, with an open lab at Battle Ground High School and teachers available for in-person or remote assistance.
