Dearest friends,

Have you ever written something so brain-rendingly disturbing you actually shocked the hell out of yourself? If you know me at all, that’s a pretty high bar, and it’s one I am pleased to announce I have surpassed in my recent short story “Eat Your Rage.”

Not only is this story the most thoroughly disturbed thing I’ve written to date, but Tales to Terrify actually read it and decided to publish it as a podcast! So when you think about it, they must be more messed-up than I am. This may be love.

Tales to Terrify is a weekly short fiction horror podcast operating since 2012. You can check them out at their website or Facebook, or listen to their podcasts on Spotify or Apple for some deliciously dark fiction.

“Eat Your Rage” is a short story turned podcast episode for your auditory-consuming pleasure (or disgust? It’s a fine line for us horror lovers, right?). If you can stomach it, you can listen right here:

Tales to Terrify Episode 548

The night before Halloween, a dying man’s intrusive thoughts twist into disturbing compulsions as he tries to prove there’s nothing he can’t fix. [Story starts at 25:13]

Theoretically I shouldn’t have to tell you this if you’ve read this far, but for good measure: this story is for adults only, it contains extreme horror, gore, violence, self-harm, mutilation, and so on. Also some bad language. All my favourite things. If you barf, that’s on you; you’ve been warned. Bon Appétit!

But in all serious, I’m positively chuffed to hear this as a podcast! Huge thanks to Tales to Terrify and their amazing team! Please give those nice folks a follow, a ritual sacrifice, or a friendly comment.

In Less Disturbed but Equally Awesome News…

This February I had the tremendous pleasure of editing the Crime Writers of Canada’s (CWC) 40th Anniversary Anthology “Cold Canadian Crime.” This is a collection of short stories by 21 Canadian authors, all of whom are phenomenally talented. The anthology spans all manner of Crime subgenres, from cozy to sci-fi to detective to mystery to conman. There’s something for everyone, and if you love the crime genre this is a great chance to find some new favourite authors or to revisit some tried-and-trues.

The anthology officially launched in May and you can find it here:

Find it on GoodReads

Be on the lookout for the next newsletter this fall—lots of exciting new anthology releases to come!

Random Newsletter FAQs
Why Do You Have a Newsletter?
I ask myself this, too.
Will You Be Updating More Often?
I certainly hope not. My apologies in advance, if so. Maybe things will happen. You never know.
How Can I Get Off This Ship?

You Seem To Hate Newsletters, Why Is That?
Not at all, dear friend! Newsletters are, themselves, fine. They are merely another avenue by which to scream into the void, and my throat does get hoarse at times. But I don’t mind. Such is the writing life. Where would I scream if not the void?
How Often Do You Send These Out?
As minimally as humanly possible, I swear it.
I Have Newsletter Ideas for You, Or Questions for Your FAQs, Or Cute Animal Pictures, Can I Send Them to You?
Of course!
