The Crotty Center is introducing new
events, pitch tracks,
and a Director!

Starting in August, the Crotty Center has several Black Business month events for the startup community, is launching three tracks for the 2022-2023 Flyer Pitch Competition, and has appointed a new Director to the Crotty Center team.

Get ready for the next Flyer Pitch Competition!

The 2022-2023 Flyer Pitch Competition is launching in September! The competition now has three tracks and more in-kind prizes than ever. There is a track for every venture (ESP/Tech Track, Main Street Track, and Non-Profit track). The competition is open to all UD students, faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the Greater Dayton region. Over $150K in funding is provided over three rounds and in the seven-month program. Mentorship, Hub memberships, pitch feedback, and student support are all benefits of those participating in the competition.

We welcome you to attend a Flyer Pitch info session to learn more about the competition and how to prepare for the elevator pitch round!  The info sessions are hybrid and can be attended in-person or via zoom. The dates and link to register can be found on our website below.

Info Session #1: Friday, August 16th (5:00-6:00pm)
Info Session #2: Friday, August 26th: (5:00-6:00pm)
Info Session #3: Saturday, September 3rd: (10:00-11:00am)

Dr. David Marshall
as the Director of
the Crotty Center for Entrepreneurial Research!

The University of Dayton School of Business Administration and its L. William Crotty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership are pleased to announce the appointment of University of Dayton faculty member, Dr. David Marshall as the new Director of the Crotty Center.

As a member of UD’s Management and Marketing department, Dr. Marshall primarily teaches courses in the entrepreneurship major. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi and also holds MBA and MPA degrees from Syracuse University and a BS degree from Weber State University. Dr. Marshall conducts research in entrepreneurship and family business and has published his work in several leading academic journals. Since arriving at UD in 2017, Dr. Marshall has been active in the entrepreneurship community as a faculty advisor for UD’s chapter of Epsilon Nu Tau, a national entrepreneurship fraternity that was founded at UD. He has also served as a judge (and one-time participant) in UD’s Flyer Pitch Competition and is a member of the Crotty Center Advisory Council. Dr. Marshall regularly consults with local small businesses and venture capital firms and is looking forward to continued engagement with students across campus to support entrepreneurial efforts. Before a career in academia, Dr. Marshall worked in finance for the Department of Defense, he will continue to teach selected courses in entrepreneurship and management as well as engage in other Crotty Center programs and major initiatives.

Vince Lewis, Associate Vice-President for Entrepreneurial Initiatives and Executive Director of the Crotty Center stated, “We are extremely excited to have David join the Crotty Center team. His expertise in family business and entrepreneurial finance will be key to our continued engagement in the community and execution of the Crotty Center’s major initiatives.”
