Winter Newsletter & Awards Night Details
The  2023 season has been a successful one for Suburbs-Piako and I'm really proud of all that we, as a Club, have achieved. Covid has made trouble for the whole year and I am proud of the way many of you stepped up to help teams above fill gaps when players were at home isolating. Let's hope next year brings more joy where Covid is concerned. While there are a number of highlights to point out, I'd like to leave these until we celebrate at our Awards Night on Friday 9th September. Aaron Barnsdall: Club President

STRATEGIC PLAN
Why do we need a Strategic Plan?

In the last week, we handed out a leaflet on our draft strategic plan. We have also uploaded this information to our website ( see the link below).
This draft strategic plan was prepared following consultation with club members via a questionnaire and with input from WHA, NZH, and Sport Waikato. Having a strategic plan gives the committee a clear direction on what you want the Club to focus on.  It’s essential that, as a club, we are clear on where we’re heading and have a plan for how we will get there.  We need to make sure we’re giving our members what they want.
The strategic plan will drive the work of the Committee ensuring we put the effort in where it’s most needed. A strategic plan is a vital supporting document when applying for funding.
We have asked you to respond to us by emailing your thoughts and ideas at suburbshc@gmail.com  by the 17th of August. This will allow us time to prepare a presentation to be imparted at our Awards Night. Please email us at suburbshc@gmail.com  with any comments and have your say.

INVITING EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST FOR
Coaching or Managing  a SPHC team in 2023

Coaching is about sharing your knowledge and experience, making sport fun, and giving everyone a go. It’s about teaching discipline, fair play, and skills.  Managers support the coaches and are vital in ensuring a team's well-being. If you are interested in coaching a team or maybe being an assistant coach, please speak to your coach or speak to our club's captains, Jarrod Thorne or Kim Martyn. Or email us at suburbshc@gmail.com

COMMITTEE SUPPORT NEEDED

Treasurer, Social Secretary & Inventory Keeper

As we move into planning for the 2023 season, the club requires a few more people to join the committee and share the load.
Treasurer:
Our incumbent treasurer is unable to continue.  If you are an accountant, a university student studying accounting or business, or have experience with Xero please could you put your hand up to join the committee?
Social Secretary: This is a fun job!!! Next year we would like to plan a couple more events where the whole club can gather and join in. If you can plan a good party then, hey, we need you. Please contact Kim or Jarrod at the next game.
Inventory Keeper:  Are you a master at Excel?  If you are, then we could do with your help. The Club has grown and we now have uniforms and kits to tally up and hand out each year. It would lessen the load on existing members if one or two people would undertake to run inventory for us. Please contact Kim or Jarrod

Amendments to the SPHC Constitution
The Committee wishes to align the Club's financial end-of-year date with the hockey playing season, rather than with the customary end of March financial year. This will allow the Club to hold an AGM before the commencement of the playing season rather than after the season is underway ( May), and make financial record keeping easier. To do this, the Club must hold a Special General Meeting and pass a motion to amend the necessary clause(s) in the Constitution. We will hold this meeting on the awards night. This will ensure we have the required number of members to gain a quorum. Formal notice of the motion will follow in the next week.

!!!RETURN YOUR UNIFORM TO THE LAST GAME!!!

All players must return the tops, skorts, and shorts at the end of the last game.  Please bring a spare outfit to change into. The Club has to undertake a complete inventory and chasing uniforms after the season finishes is painful! Return to managers. All managers are to return to Jarrod or Kim (Club Captains).

Congratulations
Special congrats to two of our women, Madison Russell who was recently admitted to the Bar (the legal bar as opposed to a drinking one, okay!), and Ana Cornish who became a fully registered teacher.

2023
The Committee  is already planning for next year. Club Captains Jarrod and Kim will be in contact with you very soon to ask if you are going to play with us next year and what grade you would like to play in. Tentative dates for the muster are Feb 2nd and 12th, though these are yet to be confirmed by WHA; regardless, please diary them now.

GET WELL DYLAN
SPHC Saints Team player Dylan Baillie took a massive hit at last week's game and the Club wishes Dylan, who has a severe concussion, all the best for his recovery.

OUTSTANDING PAYMENTS
Please note that all players who have not yet paid their fees will be chased up by managers in the next couple of weeks for payments. These must be finalised now.

CLUB SPONSORSHIP
At this week's committee meeting, a Sponsorship Policy for team and club sponsorship has been approved. The policy is a result of the Strategic Plan work that the committee undertook in 2021/2022. Thanks to Grant Lee who spent considerable time putting it together for us. This policy will be released to all members at the Awards night and be up and running ready for the 2023 year.
