Exciting news friends!
We’re proud to announce the revival of our Slow Food East Bay MONTHLY POTLUCK gatherings with the first to be held in three short weeks. It’s been over two years since we last brought the SFEB community together in person, at our final Cultural Food Traditions dinner February of 2020, and we miss you all!
We’ve decided it’s time to begin the baby steps back toward the communal meals and knowledge sharing for which Slow Food is known, and what better way to engage than through a shared meal? We plan to meet outdoors on the second Thursday of each month and envision these casual gatherings as an opportunity for thoughtful conversations about the food system, nourishing culinary creations and relationship building. In addition to sharing our collective knowledge and perspectives, we will invite a special guest to the table each month to give greater perspective from a professional standpoint.
To kick things off, our first three potlucks will celebrate the wonder of Slow Beans! Slow Food USA featured six Ark of Taste bean seeds for their Plant a Seed campaign this year and we see beans as a brilliant way to explore the basic tenets of Slow Food - Good, Clean and Fair. Beans not only are delicious, nourishing and inexpensive sustenance, but also environmental allies, and a conduit for justice and food sovereignty.
For our August gathering, we’re highlighting the GOOD in beans! We're inviting a beans-passionate chef to join us and share hints and tips and we encourage you all to bring a seasonal dish (aren't the markets gorgeous right now?) and highlight a dried bean if you'd like.
