These projects will explore and support the mental health needs of Canadian public safety personnel, their leaders, and their families. This includes approximately $2.1 million going towards PSPNET Families to develop mental health promotion resources and supports to complement PSPNET. Mental Health Tip

This month's mental health tip recognizes the importance of self-care, which is internationally recognized on July 24th. Self-care is about setting aside time in your day for things that make you feel better, even when you are stressed or life is feeling chaotic.

According to the Canadian Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) there are six important ways to practice self-care:

  • Eat and hydrate well.
  • Move your body, elevating your heart rate for 30 minutes a day can make a huge impact on your wellbeing.
  • Pay attention to yourself by identifying things that improve your mental health and the things that bring you down. While we may not be able to fully avoid the things that harm our mental wellbeing we can strive to achieve balance in our lives by pursuing things that we enjoy.
  • Sleep well by aiming to get 8 - 10 hours of sleep a night, creating a relaxing bedtime routine, and avoiding blue light before bed.
  • Slow down and remember to make time for relaxation every day. Something as simple as listening to a couple of your favourite songs is a great place to start.
  • Talk to people who support you. Remember, that if you need someone to talk Wellness Together Canada provides free and confidential mental health and substance use support 24/7. Call 1-866-585-0445 or text 741741
