Have you talked to your patients
about the pediatric COVID-19 vaccine?

SCFHP encourages our providers to have conversations with caregivers about the safety and efficacy of the pediatric COVID-19 vaccine for children six months to four years of age.

Despite the CDC approval of the COVID-19 vaccine for children aged 6 months to 4 years of age, only 5.6% of that demographic group has received the vaccine in Santa Clara County.

In the United States, over 140,000 children have been hospitalized and 1,700 children have died from COVID-19.
Children at higher risk of getting very sick from COVID-19 are those with:
  • asthma
  • diabetes
  • sickle cell disease
  • considered obese
For more information about how to talk to your patients about the pediatric COVID vaccine visit this CDC link or HHS toolkit.

Need to refer your patients
to a kid-friendly vaccination site?

The SCFHP Blanca Alvarado Community Resource Center has designed a safe, fun, and welcoming space for children to get their COVID-19 vaccine during their Children’s Vaccination Clinics.

Spirometry Testing in the Assessment
and Diagnosis of COPD

The Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) and the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s (NCQA) Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®) both emphasize the importance of spirometry testing as a tool to diagnose Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

Spirometry testing is the most reproducible, objective, noninvasive, and attainable test for diagnosing COPD. The test measures the volume of air exhaled at different points after a maximal inhalation. However, spirometry testing is underutilized in diagnosing COPD; as a result, NCQA evaluates testing through the HEDIS® spirometry measure. The measure assesses adults 40 years of age and older with newly diagnosed or newly active COPD who received spirometry testing to confirm the diagnosis.

Please use the following CPT Codes when billing for spirometry in diagnosing COPD:

CPT Code CPT Description
94010 Breathing capacity test
94014 Patient recorded spirometry
94015 Patient recorded spirometry
94016 Patient recorded spirometry
94060 Evaluation of wheezing
94070 Evaluation of wheezing
94375 Respiratory flow volume loop
94620 Pulmonary stress testing

New 2022 GOLD guidelines
for bronchodilators
