Urgent Request for Help with Child Care
at Yearly Meeting

(even for one shift)

Sarah Gillooly writes:

Hello Friends –
Our already understaffed JYM program for Annual Session at Hood College in Frederick next week is now regrouping after one of the two Clerks is no longer able to attend for medical reasons.

I am reaching out to ask if you would be willing to volunteer for even one shift at JYM. The shifts of most urgent need are:
·       Tuesday, 1:50pm – 5:10pm (nursery)
·       Tuesday, 6:50pm – 9:15pm
·       Wednesday, 8:50am – 10:15am (nursery)
·       Wednesday, 6:50pm – 9:15pm (nursery)
·       Thursday, 6:50pm – 9:15pm (nursery)
·       Saturday, 6:50pm – 9:15pm
You can see the full list of unstaffed shifts on this GoogleDoc.

RED shifts are most urgent. Yellow shifts are second-priority. If you might be willing to volunteer for any of these shifts, please enter your name in the appropriate box on the schedule.

If you were not already planning to attend Annual Session and need overnight accommodations in order to volunteer, we can put you up for a night (in the brand new, suite style dorm – no more walking down the hall in your pjams for that 2am bathroom run!)

If you volunteer, Alex Arbor (nee Alex Bean) will follow-up with information about JYM, and I will follow up regarding background checks and Child Safety Policy forms.

As you’ll see in the staffing chart, we are running JYM a bit differently this year due to the lack of volunteers and the smaller number of children. Rather than being in multiple classrooms and buildings, the nursery/preschool, elementary aged, and Junior Young Friends will gather each day in one central “JYM Space” (Coblentz 2nd Floor) and then split up for age-based groups and activities as volunteer capacity allows. There are only 3 children in the nursery/preschool group this year, ages: 18 months, 3 years, and 4 years. Unless we are able to recruit volunteers for the yellow shifts, the Afternoon Program (1:50pm – 5:10pm) on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday will be Parent Co-Op, with the exception of the Nursery, which will be staffed.

Masks will be worn indoors at JYM. BYM will provide you with a fresh KN95 mask and a rapid Covid test before your shift.

Thank you for taking the time to consider this urgent request!

With deepest gratitude,
Sarah G.
