Tuesday is Primary Day

Tuesday, we finally conclude the voting for our nominees.  If you haven't voted in the Primary and you are holding a ballot that you received in the mail, it is too late to mail it back! Return it to one of the county election drop boxes or drop boxes on the Navajo Nation or take it to a polling place on Tuesday.

If you don't use your mailed Primary Election ballot to vote, that's one strike against your status on the new Active Early Voting List -- get too many strikes, and you no longer get a ballot in the mail, thanks to our Republican-controlled legislature and Governor Ducey. So, vote!

Special thanks to our volunteers who will be poll watching on Primary Election Day and to those who have accepted our Chair's nomination to the County Elections Hand Audit Board for work in the days following the vote.  If you are interested in helping with Democratic Party Voter Protection Work for the General Election, please sign up here.

Hands-On Federal Budget Workshop with Tom O'Halleran

Join Congressman Tom O'Halleran on Monday, August 1, 5:30 pm at the Coconino County Government building for a hands-on federal budget workshop. Attendees will work together in groups to create mock federal budgets and then discuss the process in Washington. The Congressman will be taking questions and speaking with constituents following the workshop. Coconino County Government Building, 219 East Cherry Avenue, Flagstaff, AZ.  RSVP

Referendum Campaign

We are supporting the Save Our Schools referendum campaign to repeal HB2853, which would expand vouchers to every student in Arizona, draining billions from our public schools. Read the details of this nefarious bill here. Our volunteers have already gathered hundreds of signatures. The Arizona Democratic Party also has officially endorsed this campaign.

Check our calendar for opportunities to sign the petition. Tomorrow (Sunday, July 31), we'll be at Buffalo Park (8-10), Flagstaff Community Market (8-noon), and our office (1-3). If you are a circulator needing a notary, stop by the office tomorrow afternoon or during our regular business hours, Monday-Friday.

Proof We Can Stop MAGA & WIN

If you’ve had a rock in your stomach since SCOTUS handed down so many horrifying decisions in June–then this meeting offered by a coalition of national grassroots activist groups and featuring a very special guest is one you absolutely don’t want to miss.

The media was forecasting a Red wave for November, but everything changed post-Roe. Don’t take our word for it — hear directly from the founder of the New Democrat Network think tank, Simon Rosenberg.  Read more.

Coconino Democratic Party is co-sponsoring this virtual event with Swing Left on August 9. RSVP to receive the Zoom link.

Monthly Action Meeting

You won't want to miss our Monthly Action Meeting on August 13 with Special Guest Superintendent Kathy Hoffman who is running for her second term. We'll also host two Democrats running for FUSD School Board. Our program will emphasize what's at stake in the Midterm Election, celebrate our nominees selected by the voters in the Primary Election, and prepare you to take action to get out the vote. On Zoom and in person at the Murdoch Center!

A Musical Program for Tom O'Halleran and Kyle Nitschke

On August 20, get ready for equal parts wisdom & willful ignorance plus a dash of inane banter…And we’ll definitely be chatting about how to make this place just a tad better. Have a friend who complains? Here’s a chance to keep them sane! Performances from Crys Matthews & Pete Kronowitt.

Crys Matthews
, hailed as “the next Woody Guthrie,” is among the brightest stars of the new generation of social justice music-makers. A powerful lyricist whose songs of compassionate dissent reflect her lived experience as what she lightheartedly calls “the poster-child for intersectionality.” With the release of her new, hope-fueled, love-filled social justice album Changemakers, she tackles some heavy topics like immigration, the opioid crisis, Black Lives Matter, and gun safety. Matthews cemented her acclaim as the 2017 Grand Prize Winner of the New Song Music Competition at Lincoln Center and recently received the 2021 Folk Alliance International’s Song of the Year Award for “Changemakers.”

If you remember Natalie Burdick -- organizer extraordinaire from 2020, Pete Kronowitt is her husband and a great musician. If Steve Earle and Elvis Costello got pissed enough to write political tunes, they would sound like Pete Kronowitt songs. With 5 albums, Pete combines performing and activism. Pete’s new album, Do Something Now, was released in September 2020.

The concert is free at the Murdoch Center. Spread the word!

Save The Date -- Monsoon Picnic
