The Young Friends of Missouri Cures is hosting a meet-and-greet next week at Spine Bookstore & Cafe in St. Louis, Missouri. MOST Policy Fellows will are excited to meet young community leaders and share about their experiences working in science policy.

Licensed home daycares can exempt related kids from max capacity under new Missouri law

Home-based child care providers are permitted to exempt up to two children related to them from being counted toward their maximum capacity under a new law that went into effect this month. That means providers like Debbie George, who has operated a daycare in Hallsville for nearly 36 years, won’t have to leave two slots unfilled for afternoons or school breaks.

Record-smashing storms like Tuesday’s could become more common in St. Louis

The amount of rain that fell in six hours Tuesday surpassed the average amount of rain the region usually gets in July and August combined, meteorologists from the National Weather Service in St. Louis say. Some parts of the region received more than a foot of rain in less than a day. The heavy rains caused flash flooding and stranded hundreds.

A Missouri council is looking to combat school-to-prison pipeline for students with disabilities

Studies show that students of color and students with disabilities are suspended and referred to police more often than their peers in schools across Missouri.

This disproportionate rate of discipline can disrupt their education and push these students into the criminal justice system. A new Missouri grant aims to help change the process.

Summer drought spurs decline in Missouri’s agriculture industries

The Missouri Department of Agriculture has released its weekly market summary. The report details the agricultural market for both produce and livestock across the state. Drought conditions still persist in many parts of Missouri according to the report, with almost 3/4th of the state experiencing some sort of drought. Parts of Southern Missouri are still experiencing extreme drought conditions.

Applications for our Executive Policy Fellowship continue to be accepted on a rolling basis. MOST Executive Policy Fellows assist state agencies with incorporating data management, analysis, visualization, and integration practices to improve program design and implementation according to agency priorities. Executive Policy Fellows also have opportunities to build policy-relevant skills by participating in professional development activities hosted by MOST and by contributing additional capacity to team projects as appropriate.

We are currently seeking candidates that have (or will have) a terminal degree (M.S./M.A. or above) in data science, computer science, systems engineering, or a related field (e.g., operations management), or have completed a terminal degree in another discipline that required extensive data analysis. We are seeking members of a Community Science Note Editorial Board who can assist in writing and reviewing science notes for a variety of settings, including general information, responses to public comment opportunities, and in advance of public hearings. We request that writers and editors have scientific training such as advanced degrees and/or extensive research experience.
