Internal Call for Applications - NOHFC Research Internships – People & Talent Program - August 10, 2022 Internal Deadline
Under this program, Lakehead University has a quota of five research-related placements.  Of these five, two are currently, or will be available.  The internal deadline for the submission of internship applications to the Office of Research Services is August 10, 2022.  For more information, please click here.


Call for Applications: CFI John R. Evans Leaders Fund (Unaffiliated) - Internal Deadline: August 15, 2022
All tenure-track and tenured Lakehead University faculty members are invited to submit applications to Lakehead University's Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF) internal Fall 2022 competition. The deadline for the internal competition will be August 15, 2022.  Please note that up to $500,000 (40% CFI portion only) from Lakehead's JELF allocation has been allocated to this competition to support a total investment of up to $1,250,000 in research infrastructure.  For more information about Lakehead's internal JELF competition, including application requirements and eligibility, please click here.

NSERC:  PromoScience Call for Applications
Under this program NSERC is inviting submissions for initiatives that promote the natural sciences and engineering (NSE) to Canada's young people (in particular to under-represented and disadvantaged groups in NSE careers, including girls and Indigenous peoples).  The application deadline is September 15, 2022. Up to $200,000/year for 3 years can be requested, and only one application may be submitted per organization or department per competition year.

Illustrate Your Research Contest (Association of Canadian Universities for Northern Studies/Association of Early Career Polar Scientists)
ACUNS and APECS Canada have announced the Illustrate Your Research contest for students, early-career northern researchers and members. This is a special opportunity that involves transforming a researcher's northern research project into an illustrative vignette or comic strip panel. To enter the contest, please submit:
  1. A 100-word plain language summary of the researcher's northern research;
  2. A 500-word extended description of the northern research;
  3. A visual of the research (figure, diagram, photo, etc.)
One submission will be selected to work with Canadian graphic designer, Martin PM (who will turn the researcher's research into a comic strip).  Contest closes August 31st at 11:59PM PST.  To complete the Google submission form, please click here.


Canadian Space Agency - Announcement of Opportunities for Academia - Supplements to the NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowships Program 2022
The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) has announced its goal to renew its support to postdoctoral fellows through its “Supplements to the NSERC Potsdoctoral Fellowship Program 2022” Announcement of Opportunity (AO).  The CSA offers grant supplements to postdoctoral researchers who have been awarded an NSERC postdoctoral fellowship, and who are also conducting research project that is aligned with and that will contribute to the priorities outlined in the Space Strategy for Canada.  Application deadline: January 13, 2023.  For more information, please click here.


CIHR:   LAUNCH: Fall 2022 Reviewer in Training Program
CIHR's RiT program offers Early Career Researchers (ECRs) the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the peer review process through direct participation in the Project Grant competition through the support of a Mentor. RiT participants are assigned up to three applications to:  1) conduct practice reviews, 2) attend the peer review meeting, 3) present one of their reviews, and 4) participate in the committee meeting.  The RiT application program period opened on July 18th, 2022 and closes on August 12th, 2022.  If you have any questions, please contact college@cihr-irsc.gc.ca.  For more information, please click here.

Less than three Weeks Left to CSPC Awards Deadline! - CSPC Youth Award
From the CSPC email:  "CSPC is committed to building capacity and empowering the next generation of scientists and policy makers to develop their expertise and showcase their talent.  If you are under 35 years of age and feel strongly about a policy issue, you can enter this competition by drafting a compelling, evidence-based policy proposal to initiate change." IDRC International Doctoral Research Awards
The purpose of IDRC International Doctoral Research Awards are intended build capacity and develop research skills in Canada and the Global South for the improvement of the lives of people in the developing world. These awards are open to Canadians, permanent residents of Canada, and citizens of developing countries pursuing doctoral studies at a Canadian university. The costs of field research conducted for a doctoral dissertation in one or more countries in the Global South will be covered by theses awards.  Application deadline:  August 31, 2022.  For more information, please click here.

Mitacs Training Courses: New Instructor Led Session Dates for July and August
Mitacs has opened new dates for their facilitated sessions between July and August 2022 and would like to invite students and post-doctoral fellows to register. Students and postdocs can find the list of sessions available here. To register, students need to create an account or log in on the Mitacs learning management system EDGE.
