Hello! As most of you know, we have a Birth Equity Grant through the DOH here at Forks Community Hospital. As part of this, we are working to establish a community based Indigenous peoples doula program (intrapartum but also pre and post-partum). We are excited to offer our first training sessions. These will be for anyone who is English speaking (stay tuned for Spanish/Mam). This would be community members caring for other community members in a culturally appropriate way. Not exactly this groups objective, but along the same lines. Attached is the event poster. Please distribute far and wide and forward this with impunity. The more applicants the better. We will screen them and so no need to restrict who you invite. Please do not hesitate to text or call me with questions or concerns. Rebecca Pfaff, MD 206 459-6305 |

From Mark Baumann:This email is to several of my friends and clients, to invite you to join me in attending Karen Quail’s two-hour parenting skills training next Thursday, August 4, 2022. The cost is minimal. As many of you know, I think Karen is an excellent teacher of relationship and parenting skills and that her Peace Discipline model is superior. The training will be online from South Africa. They start at 7:00 pm SOUTH AFRICA time, which is conveniently 10:00 am Port Angeles time. I always find it a nice change of pace to hang out with Karen and her friends in South Africa. Karen is still busy building her Peace Discipline business, and only offers online trainings occasionally, so if you are interested it’s worth making sure to attend this session. For information about the program, payment and registration, see https://clallamcountybar.com/boundaries-with-teenagers-peace-discipline-training/. On that blog post, I have a link to another article I wrote about Peace Discipline, with more links out, including a link to the Wikipedia page on Child Discipline where there is a brief summary of her Peace Discipline Toolkit. Feel free to pass this on to your friends and family. Mark Baumann |

The Marvelous Trifecta of 4-H, the County Fair & the PNW Junior Livestock AuctionHooray, it's finally fair season! The Clallam County Fair will run August 18th-21st. Let's dig into the relationship between 4-H and County Fairs.
First a quick reminder, 4-H is a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) program delivered by Cooperative Extension—a community of more than 100 public universities across the nation. 4-H was founded 120 years ago to help support positive youth development while teaching the latest in agriculture and homesteading techniques to youth and families.
While 4-H has expanded beyond agriculture and homesteading, traditional project areas continue to be foundational and the fair is where the showcasing, competing and auctioning of all the hard work culminates! Interested in purchasing some tasty, locally-raised meat? Auction info here. |

List of Chapter Books to Read AloudYou’ve probably been waiting for this moment for years – all through those board book years and through millions of picture books and finally it looks like your child might be ready for some chapter books! (It’ll vary what age your child is ready for first chapter books – many readers are ready around 3 or 4 but some may be younger or older. There’s no right age and there’s no rush!). But picking the right first chapter books to read aloud matters! |

PBS KIds!!!Who doesn’t dream of jetting off into space like Jet in “Ready Jet Go!”? While it’s only astronauts that get to soar among the stars, we can still have fun exploring the solar system here on Earth. Space is a fascinating and sometimes confusing topic for kids. |

The Conservative Case for Childcare InvestmentChildren are not Republicans or Democrats. Childcare is above party affiliation and affects all Americans, whether they have children or not.
As the childcare crisis continues to sweep through red and blue districts alike and parents are joining together to demand solutions, we are so excited that conservative policy makers are bringing ideas to the table and looking at how to prioritize American families. Interesting article here… The Conservative Case for Childcare Investment (mailchi.mp) |
