Transitions!

Dear Family and Friends

We hope you are well.

It has been awhile since you heard from us so we thought it was time to give you an update. We are all doing well, and all in various stages of transitions. So it is an interesting time for us Cartwrights!

ALECK
Now that things are opening up again after two years of lockdowns, Aleck is transitioning into travelling a lot more again. It is still not at the same level as it was pre-pandemic, but at least he is able to travel again - which he is enjoying. The interesting thing about his travel ifs that it seems to primarily be to closed countries. He has really enjoyed that - going to new places. Earlier in the year he was in Kyrgyzstan, and in a couple of weeks he will be going to Jordan to help run a UNIQUIP - training in how to lead courses well in the UofN - followed by meetings in Switzerland.

In other news, he will be co-leading the next iteration of the Masters in Team-Based Communication, starting in September.  It will last for 2 years and is being run in 3 languages - Spanish, Portuguese and English. There will be four intensives over the 2 year period in Colombia, Chile and Brazil.

Earlier in the year they ran a 6-week seminar to give people a taste of the masters content/work load. It was also run in the same three languages. It was a great success. So he is really looking forward to this next masters being run in the three languages as well.

  • Please pray for protection for Aleck as he starts travelling again, especially when he travels to these closed nations

DONNA-RAE
I am in a season of transition myself. I have found that with Mya Shae and Micah being older, they don’t need me as much to help with homework etc or be entertained, so I have found I have a bit of extra time on my hands, but I also realise I still need to be available to them when they do need help. So after doing the seminar in Team-Based Communication earlier in the year, I have decided that I will do the Masters in Team-Based Communication degree. This was somewhat of a surprise for me, as I really had no desire to ever get a masters degree. But I thoroughly enjoyed the content of the seminar and studying again, so decided that maybe now is a good time to be doing this degree as it means I will still be available for the kids but also investing in myself.

(As a University we are in the process of transitioning from line leadership to team leadership, so it seems very timely for me to do this Masters in light of this process we are currently going through.)

  • Please pray for wisdom and energy for both Aleck and I as we begin the Masters in September, in our different roles, that we would be able to have a healthy balance in our lives with other work, family and even within our roles on the school itself.
  • Please pray for the finances I need for the masters. The costs of this will be a HUGE challenge over the next 2 years as I have to pay
    • USD $1775 by 22 August 2022 for the first module.
    • After that it is 3 more payments (modules) of USD $1475 to be paid in February 2023, July 2023 and January 2024.
    • Plus there will be the costs of the flights to South America for the 4 intensives (the first one is in October this year, which is about another £800 per trip.)

This is a HUGE financial challenge. Please will you pray with us for a release of finances, and consider contributing to this opportunity that has been presented to me. If you would like to contribute, please contact us or you can donate directly by clicking here.

MYA SHAE
Mya finished her first year of college in Art & Design. The second year starts in September, and is the year she is most interested in as it is focusing on animation - character design, storyboarding and creating animations etc. She is looking forward to that. However she is also starting to think about transitioning from school/college to life-after-school - what happens after this last year of college, and researching her options - jobs, internships and university.

As part of preparation for post-college, she has been doing tutorials on photoshop and animation etc to try and improve her skills and give her leg up for jobs and internships later on. She has also done a paid design job - creating a logo - for a new business in Switzerland.

Her big news is that over the summer she has also started driving lessons. She is coming along really well.

  • Please pray for Mya as she learns to drive - that she would learn it well, quickly and pass her theory and practical tests with flying colours and that as she considers her options for the future, that God will give her direction and wisdom.

MICAH
Micah has done really well in school this year - he came in the top 10 of his year group (140 children). He is now transitioning into his 2-year GCSE curriculum. His subject choices are geared towards game development, as much as possible within the choice parameters, and he is looking forward to starting subjects he actually likes/has chosen.

Over the summer he has also been working on developing his skills to aid his future plans - learning programs such as blender and various coding languages.

  • Please pray for Micah that he would do well in the courses he’s chosen and that he would enjoy his choices.

HOUSE
As you know from our previous letter, we would like to move house so that we are closer to town and buses, to make things a bit easier for the kids to get jobs/go to school and generally cut down on fuel costs. However there have been very few houses on the market for rent as it seems most people want to sell at the moment. We are still trusting God to provide the perfect house for us in town or close to town but as of yet, we are still waiting. We were short listed for one house, but unfortunately the Landlord chose the other party. We are waiting and trusting God for his timing…

  • Please pray that God would provide the right house for us in His time.

Well, that is our transitional news in a nutshell! We hope you have enjoyed reading it. We pray that God will continue to richly bless you in all you do, and that you will find favour and open doors where you need them.

Thank you for your support, prayers, encouragement and friendship. Our lives are richer because of you.

Blessings and hugs

Aleck, Donna-Rae, Mya Shae & Micah

Thanks so much for your support!

This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. The Lord's loving kindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.
