Hello from the Festival!

We're glad to say that tickets are on sale. With the outdoor events in particular, where we have a whole new range this year, groups are of small sizes and ticket numbers are limited, so it’s good to book early.

The outdoor events include walks and workshops, looking at rocks and plants, and also making paper by the sea. It’s an opportunity to see parts of Orkney you might not otherwise visit, learn new insights, and meet other Festival visitors.

We've just heard that a new breakthrough’s been announced in the use of artificial intelligence to calculate protein structures. This is good timing as one of our visiting speakers this year is Prof. David Shortle of John Hopkins University in Baltimore, who’ll be giving the latest news of the work. Other stories from the frontiers of medical research include research to develop a vaccine for Epstein-Barr virus, and progress in Orcadian genetic studies.

We've also got a number of new features about Festival events and speakers in Frontiers magazine. These range from the story of the Shetland salt fish trade to an Orkney shore outing.

All the best from the Festival!
